Key job responsibilities

As a Knowledge Engineer, you will:

• Represent real-world concepts for both computer and human understanding.

• Configure Alexa's language capabilities to understand and answer questions.

• Identify content opportunities to fill gaps in Alexa's understanding.

• Leverage vertical-specific expertise to enrich customer experiences.

• Ingest structured data to enhance Alexa’s knowledge.

• Maintain the quality of existing knowledge.

• Expand the platform's ability to infer new knowledge.

• Monitor specific KPIs and drive improvements in Alexa's capabilities.

• Collaborate with developers, product managers, and business leaders to enhance Alexa's key functions worldwide.

A day in the life

Knowledge Engineers perform the following tasks daily:

• Review and scope data sources for ingestion.

• Communicate with data providers to resolve issues.

• Scrape structured and unstructured data legally.

• Evaluate data to meet budget and quality requirements.

• Develop automated ETL pipelines for data ingestion.

• Define new ontological constructs to represent real-world knowledge.

• Review ontology designs proposed by peers.

• Build engaging experiences for Alexa customers.

• Create training data sets for ML techniques and LLMs.

• Conduct training sessions and office hours for peers and other teams.

About the team

The Alexa Knowledge team focuses on natural language understanding, acquiring structured knowledge, and building autonomous machine reasoning to answer customer questions naturally. As part of Amazon Alexa's research and engineering efforts, we tackle complex problems to make Alexa smarter every day. Our work helps Alexa understand different ways people talk, learn facts about the world, improve common sense reasoning, and respond naturally in multiple languages. We believe voice will fundamentally improve technology interaction, aiming to create a cloud-based computer controlled entirely by voice.

Basic Qualifications

• A work experience of 1-3 years in the field of Semantic and Ontological Modelling is highly desired.

• Strong knowledge of Data Modelling and ETL Design.

• Experience working with both structured and unstructured data sets.

• Strong verbal and written fluency in Hindi.

Preferred Qualifications

• Able to write and execute SQL or Python scripts.

• Excellent written communication and verbal communication skill

• Deep understanding of data schema and organization

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Strong logical and conceptual thought processes

• Excellent attention to detail

• Self starter

• Knowledge of LLMs and Prompt Engineering.
