We are looking for a passionate, entrepreneurial engineering leader to join the Bangalore engineering team. In this role, you will lead our global charter around Data In Motion, as part of the LinkedIn Data Infrastructure team.

About The Data Infra Org and Data In Motion Charter:

Data and AI is at the heart of LinkedIn. The Data Infrastructure team provides world-class infrastructure to support LinkedIn’s products. The team handles our storage, databases, caching, data movement, event handling, data processing and analytics, and fleet management powering all products, businesses, and AI training. Our systems must be highly scalable, highly reliant, and highly efficient while providing easy-to-use interfaces that support developer velocity and easy-to-operate capabilities that support low effort production.

The Data In Motion charter is responsible for all aspects of data movement – including event processing, data change processing, and data replication on behalf of our storage and database systems. Whether moving data to be close to GPUs or enabling real-time event notifications to users, the Data In Motion team must deliver high scale, fast performance and efficient data delivery that can adapt to a rapidly evolving set of workload demands.

Responsibilities:

Roadmap and vision 

  • Drive the infrastructure product and technology roadmap to help accelerate LinkedIn's member growth, engagement, and monetization efforts.

  • Own the integrity of solutions, ensuring best practices are followed, not just in technical design and implementation but also in quality of the code.

  • Jointly develop and own key business, scalability and availability metrics and actively set and achieve goals

Production integrity

  • Ensure proactive monitoring, alerting and response to production issues.

  • Develop strategies to maintain and improve production integrity

  • Identify how bugs should be resolved and which parts of the system should be rewritten if any.

Project management

  • Prioritization in concert with Product, Platforms, and Operations teams

  • Drive project management and execution within your team and cross-organizational dependencies, overseeing completeness of tasks and accuracy of estimates

  • Assign people to projects and monitor work progress against estimates

  • Be the escalation point for resolving exceptions and clearing roadblocks.

Maximizing productivity

  • Build and maintain a high-performance engineering team, guiding decisions, provide training and career counseling, and mentoring for peak performance of the team

  • Develop team-level leaders, define clear roles and assign areas of ownership, ensure clear priorities and high standards of accountability, and maximize cross-organizational alignment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS, MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics or related engineering experience.

  • 13+ years of experience as a people manager in a software development organization.

  • Hands-on experience leading 50+ member teams in a product development organization.

  • Experience in development of distributed/scalable systems and high-volume transaction applications

Preferred Qualification:

  • 15+ years experience in planning, designing, developing and delivering software.

  • Highly motivated and enthusiasm for solving interesting problems

  • Communicate and drive cross-functional efforts.

  • Relationship and people skills.

  • Strong experience influencing and delivering results in a global, matrix environment

  • Attention to detail and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
