Primary Purpose
The Part-time Instructor of Spanish provides instruction to students in the World Languages and Culture program. Instruction is at the 100-200 level for students in a transfer degree program. Courses to be taught may include any one of a six-course series courses: First Year Spanish I, II, III ( SPAN 101, 102, 103) and Second Year Spanish I, II and III ( SPAN 201, 202, 203). In addition to teaching within the Spanish curriculum, faculty direct student discussion, select learning experiences appropriate for meeting objectives and evaluate student performance in the classroom.
Essenatial Duties and Responsibilities
Provide instruction in area of Spanish, using approved course outcome guides. Teaching assignments may be during the day (including early morning), evening, or weekend, and could include classes taught at any of the College campuses, online or remotely.
Hold at least one scheduled office hour per class per week for student help sessions and program assistance.
Utilize College tools and resources, including the Learning Management System and Disability Services software, to support teaching activities as appropriate.
Participate in course assessment.
Cooperate with other College personnel to assist students with career planning, job placement, and follow-up studies.

Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. Thorough knowledge in the language of Spanish.
Knowledge of teaching and instruction of various audiences and group dynamics.
Visual ability, corrected, to enable instructor to observe, direct, and supervise students in classroom situations.
Familiarity with and ability to operate or oversee the operation of audio-visual equipment, including overhead projectors, film, sound systems, video, television, interactive video and audio equipment including computer controlled mixed media presentations.
Ability to operate or oversee the operation of computers and other written materials.
Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services.
Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature.
Ability to work with faculty and other COCC staff at all levels.
Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and locations, as required.
Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.
Ergonomic Requirements
Work is performed in classroom and office environments with the ability to sit or stand at workstation for extended periods. The employee is regularly required to use computers, white boards, projectors, and other basic office equipment. The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary conversations. Computer screens are used frequently. Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. Travel throughout the College district as needed. A flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the position responsibilities. The employee is required to meet physical and ergonomic requirements of the program area as this may vary from positions. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Minimum Requirements
Master’s degree in Spanish or closely related discipline.
Willingness and ability to travel to teach at any college location in Central Oregon.
One year of successful College teaching experience in the subject area or evidence for the potential for excellence in teaching.
