You will leverage Amazon's heterogeneous data sources and large-scale computing resources to accelerate development with multimodal Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI). You will be solving difficult non-deterministic workflows, work with highly scaled systems, and build technological frameworks/systems that keeps raising the bar on quality.

The right candidate will enjoy finding solutions to hard problems, possess a strong program management background, will have demonstrated experience leading medium to large projects and will have a well-rounded technical background in one or more of machine learning applications, device software and/or web development. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in and get the job done.

Key job responsibilities

As a Sr. TPM, you will be responsible for scoping and delivering large projects end-to-end. In this, you will collaborate closely with a team of scientists and engineers to influence our overall strategy and define the team's road map. A successful candidate will have a background in engineering large scale software systems, a strong technical ability, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to take large, complex projects and break them down into manageable pieces, develop functional specifications, then deliver them in a successful and timely manner is expected

  • Collect business and systems requirements from internal and/or external customers

  • Anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, make tradeoffs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints

  • Have high judgment, negotiation skills, and ability to influence

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to generate and communicate meaningful metrics

  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills

  • Independent, able to take quick decision with limited / no guidance

  • Skilled in forecasting, risk management, and change control

  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, dynamic work environment

  • Fast learner on new technologies, especially machine learning approaches

A day in the life

Your day might include facilitating team discussions, analyzing data to make informed decisions, collaborating with engineers on technical solutions, and coordinating with various teams to ensure project success. You'll balance strategic planning with hands-on problem-solving while supporting team members in achieving shared goals.

About the team

This role is in a team that is building a family of AI-enabling services. This team is considered strategic and has visibility with Amazon leadership at the highest levels. The role offers a chance to build and launch new AI services from the ground up, learn the state of the art in machine learning (ML) technology, and work closely with an exceptional group of product, engineering, and science leaders. AI/ML background is preferred but not required.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent

  • 5+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of technical product or program management experience

  • Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules

  • Agile, SCRUM or similar program management methodologies

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience

  • Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership

  • Experience building and evaluating system-level technical design

  • Experience with Automatic Speech Recognition, Natural Language Understanding / Processing or other machine learning technologies

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $231,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
