Amazon Air is seeking a Senior Supply Chain Manager of Weights & Balance Operations Development to lead the development and future of Amazon's Weight and Balance Program.

This leader serves the Global Aviation Operations team as the subject matter expert of operations impacting weight and balance, load planning, and cargo build up to identify, design, develop, and execute standards, goals, and solutions that are safety focused and customer centric. This position works closely with Air stakeholder teams to develop scalable long-term program improvements to Amazon Air's weight and balance program.

This position requires strong communication with executive leaders, corporate managers, technical product managers, airline carrier partner leadership, and third-party vendors. This leader will be responsible for Amazon Air's weight and balance software (internal and external products), documenting weight and balance standards; quality of training, qualification controls and ensuring program compliance with air carrier weight and balance regulatory requirements. Serving as a subject matter expert this leader provides Amazon Air with regulatory knowledge, expertise and practical experience to Amazon Air in the areas of load planning, cargo build up, and aircraft weight and balance systems.

This leader provides Amazon Air with the necessary tools and resources to meet or exceed all regulations, operational performance goals, operational metrics, and lead by providing guidance on process and training. This position will create and report metrics and write various forms of program business and safety communications to improve compliance and cross-divisional coordination within the overall Amazon Air program.

Key job responsibilities

-Monitor the safety and compliance health of the weight and balance program

-Project Management Weight and Balance program systems and tools that support procedural development and AIR business initiatives.

-Technical writing, creation, and maintenance of weight and balance administration standards and training content.

-Partner with the Air Science Tech Team to design, develop, implement, and maintain weight and balance software and related tools

-Creating safety and operational metrics, dashboards, report outs, and business documents

-Maintain regular communication with Airline Carrier Partners to ensure alignment of regulatory requirements and program updates

-Conduct Safety Risk Assessments and measure effectiveness of program controls and limitations

-Communicate goals, roles, responsibilities and desired outcomes to cross-functional project teams to gain buy-in and delivery of project schedules

-Address barriers through problem solving, communication, and active coordination with stakeholders

-Working within time constraints to meet business critical needs and in support of the gateway operation

-Coordinate with team on planned changes to standards, document revisions, and communicating the changes both internally and externally

A day in the life

This role's primary focus will be on monitoring the day to day operation to ensure the processes and software are working as intended while simultaneously designing and making incremental progress towards AIR's long-term vision for the Weight and Balance program. This leader will spend their days project managing, troubleshooting process and software features, innovating solutions, speaking with operational teams, sharing visions with AIR stakeholders, writing whitepapers, analyzing metrics, and contributing to Air Safety’s continuous improvement efforts and SMS program.

About the team

This role is part of the Aviation Standards team (AvS), which is a subset of the Global Aviation Operations team. AvS contributes to Air's Safety Management System (SMS) by managing and producing safety assurance inputs from programs related to aviation, air carrier regulatory programs, and ramp/ground operations (such as the weight and balance, training, ground ops procedures, technical publications, and ramp safety investigations).

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 5+ years of program or project management experience

  • 5+ years of supply chain experience

  • Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements

  • Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership

  • Experience in air cargo, ramp operations and load planning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree, or MBA in supply chain, business, engineering, finance or related technical or quantitative field

  • 2+ years of driving process improvements experience

  • 5+ years of developing diverse supplier strategies and executing on sourcing activities experience

  • Experience with weight and balance software

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $103,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $181,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
