When a human looks at a picture of an item, they can easily identify what the item is, what condition it is in, and understand how to pick it up. Both human associates and automated or robotic systems in our fulfillment process, from procurement through delivery, rely on an understanding of an item’s physical characteristics to make efficient, high quality fulfillment decisions. Our vision is to teach our automated systems to do what comes naturally to humans - identify items, describe them, and make fast, informed choices. To solve these challenges at scale, we leverage a rich set of data including measurements, images, point clouds, and beyond. We then use a variety of techniques including computer vision, machine learning & foundation models, and advanced statistics to create powerful insights for automated decision making and improved customer experience.

Key job responsibilities

In this role, you will lead a multi-threaded set of programs and work with engineering and science to deliver state of the art computer vision solutions at Amazon scale. These systems range from foundational architectures, to vertical CV applications to add automation to the fulfillment center. You will help scale this system by managing internal and external stakeholders across business, operations, engineering, science and deployment. The team is well versed in edge and cloud SW development, hardware development and deployment, and implementing complex AI and ML models into global production. You will track and report to the VP+ level audience and you will actively engage in the design, development, deployment of the system. As a Principal TPM, you will anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints. You will take on the largest, most cross functional of projects and strategic development initiatives in the space, and will need to influence effectively up to the VP level. Maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytical talent and leadership are essential to success in this role.

About the team

AFT’s Quality team drives automation programs that leverage computer vision, machine learning, and other innovative technologies to prevent, detect, and correct potential inventory issues impacting fulfillment efficiency and customer satisfaction. Our goal is twofold: 1) to enable automated self-healing of inventory defects, maximizing customer experience and minimizing cost to serve, and 2) Provide robust horizontal foundations (images, measurements, ML derived attributes, etc) for all teams in the Fulfillment Technology and Robotics space & beyond to use and build upon. Our clients include operations, retail, robotics & Gen-AI teams across the domain.

Basic Qualifications

• 10+ years of engineering experience

• 7+ years of technical product or program management experience

• 5+ years of software development experience

• Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules

Preferred Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on work managing complex technology projects experience

• Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules

• 5+ years experience working across hardware, software, and science disciplines to deliver computer vision applications.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $159,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $275,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
