SUMMARY:

The Instructional Designer is a key member of the Training team, responsible for developing and maintaining the eLearning program, multimedia training, and curriculum using a variety of tools, adult learning strategies, and experiential learning opportunities for a diverse audience within the Datacenter Physical Security program.

The Instructional Designer is the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on training creation and administration, and works to expand the Training program by developing a dynamic, comprehensive, and effective programs to navigate geographic and staffing challenges. The Instructional Designer creates scenario-based eLearning, training videos, topic-specific training, and train-the-trainer materials to support a wide range of content areas and training formats. They also support annual training content reviews, including updating content and redesigning training formats.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Conducts needs assessments to determine training objectives, instructional strategies, project scope, workflow, roles, and timelines, and to guide future training development.

  2. Synthesizes anecdotal and quantitative data obtained from training sessions, analysis, observations, and audit findings to determine gaps in training materials and propose new content.

  3. Creates eLearn training, including designing storyboards with scripting, branched scenarios, integration of multimedia, and assessment using software and web environments.

  4. Creates video-based trainings, including storyboard and scripting for domestic and international learners.

  5. Validates training objectives and designs, pilots, and launches new curriculum, making updates to content as needed based on analysis.

  6. Designs instructor-led materials, including facilitator and participant guides, PowerPoints, training plans, classroom activities, and train-the-trainer materials.

  7. Reviews, edits, and redesigns existing curriculum as needed to support annual document review calendar.

  8. Proactively introduces new training tools and concepts into the training and development process, including interactive video and audio.

  9. Develops and updates training materials, such as job aids, quick reference guides, system guides, assessments, and manuals based on standard operating procedures.

  10. Employs project management skills and tools to design and implement training, manage project teams, and effectively prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines and diverse contributors.

  11. Develops collaborative relationships with stakeholders and works closely with subject matter experts to gain project buy-in, develop content, and identify site-based training needs.

  12. Projects a professional, service-oriented attitude; has a positive mindset, is approachable, reliable, and is a natural problem-solver.

  13. Represents cross-functional teams in systems implementation at an enterprise level.

  14. Performs communication and administrative tasks, such as drafting training release notifications, acting as backup for on- and off-boarding tasks, and maintaining training materials in SharePoint.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AT ENTRY:

Additional qualifications may be specified and receive preference, depending upon the nature of the position.

MINIMUM HIRING STANDARDS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Must have a reliable means of communication, such as cell phone.

  • Must have a reliable means of transportation (public or private).

  • Must have the legal right to work in the United States.

  • Fluent in written and spoken English

  • Must have a High School diploma or secondary education equivalent, or GED.

  • Must be willing to participate in the Company's pre-employment screening process, including drug screen and background investigation.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in education, instructional design, or related field, and 3 years of curriculum design/development experience required or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job, as determined by the company.

  • Knowledge and experience with eLearning strategies and development tools, such as Articulate Storyline, required; experience with other eLearning authoring tools, for example Lectora or Captivate, highly preferred

  • Expert knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel

  • Experience planning, designing, producing, and delivering education and training for in-person and virtual formats

  • Experience with video production strongly preferred

  • Experience with graphic design preferred

  • Experience designing onboarding curriculum

  • Experience with instruction design and technical writing

  • Experience with project management

  • Experience working in creating technical content and video

  • Knowledge of adult learning principles

  • Knowledge of program and training evaluation, process and standards

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • May be required to travel up to 10% to provide real-time training or as part of content creation.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, detail-oriented workplace

  • Able to work under pressure while maintaining a professional image and approach with clients inside and outside Microsoft

  • Ability to quickly learn unfamiliar areas of business and utilize new techniques and technologies as required

  • Ability to present training information to large audiences, both online and in person

  • Ability to manage project deadlines, offering feedback and adjusting course as needed
