Job Description

We're hiring for a remote AWS Data Engineer. The ideal candidate will have a background in database migration, specifically from SQL Server to PostgreSQL. The ideal candidate will possess experience in database engineering within both AWS and Azure environments - with roughly 80% of the role being AWS focused. This role will be instrumental in ensuring a smooth transition of data while maintaining data integrity, performance, and security. You will have significant experience looking at a stored procedure and understanding what it does, and then transposing it and validating that the transposition was done properly - i.e. producing the same results as the original stored procedure. Develop and implement migration strategies, including data transformation, schema conversion, and performance optimization.

Skills and Requirements

5+ years' experience in database management, implementing data warehousing solutions, supporting large-scale production database platforms.

5+ years' experience with AWS Data Lake solutions (i.e. AWS S3, EMR, Lambda, IAM, PySpark, Databricks, etc.).

1+ years' experience with VectorDBs (vector database) and RAG.

Experience building data warehouses for streaming applications/event driven streaming/AWS streaming pipelines - using tools like Spark, PySpark, Scala, Kafka, Kinesis, Firehose Kinesis.

DevOps experience/AWS auto-deployment experience, i.e. Terraform, Kubernetes, GitHub, EC2, ECS, etc.

Strong proficiency in SQL, PostgreSQL and Aurora.

Experience with database performance tuning, troubleshooting, and optimization.

1+ years' experience with Azure services (i.e. Azure SQL Database, Azure DevOps (ADO), etc.). Experience supporting an EdTech company.

Experience with ML (machine learning), LLM (large language model), and/or LLM RAG.

Experience with SCD (Slowly Changing Dimension).

Experience with database design and architecture.

Experience with database migration tools (e.g., AWS Database Migration Service, Azure Data Factory, etc.).

Proven experience in database migration projects, particularly from SQL Server to PostgreSQL. null
