Department Summary: MITRE's Enterprise Information Technology Division provides multiple corporate-wide services including High Performance Computing (HPC), Enterprise PC and Mobile Solutions, Network Services, and Protected Computing to MITRE research organizations.

Job Description: We are seeking an experienced Linux HPC Systems Administrator to join our team as a Group Lead for MITRE’s HPC clusters. This is an exciting opportunity for a technical candidate seeking help lead a collaborative team that leverages automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced computing to deliver AI and HPC services to MITRE organization and its sponsors. The HPC team is responsible for purchasing, deploying, and maintaining HPC hardware and user tools for over 800 MITRE employees across multiple systems including an NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD. The HPC team engages with projects across MITRE to build and support computing environment for Artificial Intelligence, Data Analysis, Modeling and Simulation, and more.

This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid

Basic Qualifications: Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or computer engineering or similar field; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Linux systems administration experience (15+ years)

  • HPC systems administration experience (5+ years)

  • Experience in project management and team leadership (5+ years).

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks simultaneously

  • Familiarity with NVIDIA GPU hardware and integration into HPC and AI workflows

  • Ability to mentor and guide team members and foster a collaborative and inclusive environment

  • Technical project oversight and leadership experience on major IT infrastructure initiatives

  • Software development experience in at least two of the following languages: C, C++, Perl, Python, Java, shell scripts

  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey technical information and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Proficiency in configuration management and automation tools such as Git, Ansible, or Chef

  • Hands on experience with basic computer networking and routing including troubleshooting basic internet protocols (DNS, DHCP, BOOTP, SMTP, S/FTP, HTTP/S, NFS, CIFS/SMB, PKI, TCP, UDP)

  • Experience with configuration management systems such as Chef or Ansible

  • Experience performing advanced troubleshooting and system administration with Linux Servers

  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Preferred Qualifications:

  • ​NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD experience preferred.

  • Proficiency in using cluster management tools such as Bright or NVIDIA Base Command Manager.

  • Familiarity with NVIDIA DGX systems, including DGX H100, and integration into HPC and AI workflows.

  • Desired experience as a team lead or similar role in AI or related field.

  • Strong decision-making skills and the ability to work under pressure.

  • Strong commitment to ethical practices and data privacy considerations in AI development and deployment.

  • Experience in systems administration on distributed computing system.

  • Familiarity with HPC-specific resources and technologies, such as GPUs, FPGAs, MPI, Infiniband

  • Experience with resource managers and schedulers for HPC clusters such as Slurm,

  • Experience with Docker, Singularity, or another container technology.

  • Experience with logging and monitoring tools such as Splunk.

  • Candidates holding current / active US Government security clearance(s) are preferred.

  • Experience with security compliance standards such as NIST 800-171 or CMMC for HPC systems

  • Experience with clustering technologies.
