Robert Half Embedded Software Engineer Manager in Bedford, Massachusetts

Description

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced Principal Embedded Engineer/Architect to lead the ongoing development of various medical devices. In this role, you will provide technical leadership and oversee a team of engineers responsible for creating high-quality software.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of software engineers to deliver efficient, high-quality code on tight deadlines.

  • Lead and contribute to all aspects of the software development lifecycle (design, development, testing, documentation) for medical devices.

  • Collaborate effectively with a multi-disciplinary engineering team to ensure software meets all functional requirements.

  • Champion an Agile/Scrum methodology, prioritizing delivery of working code during each sprint to achieve team goals.

  • Ensure adherence to established project coding standards and industry regulations for medical device software development.

  • Implement best coding practices that comply with medical device process standards (e.g., ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR Part 820, IEC 61010/IEC 60601, IEC 62304).

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or

  • Master's degree in Computer Science with 5-7 years of relevant experience.

  • Proven experience in embedded software development environments, including experience with:

  • Embedded Android development

  • Bare-metal and RTOS applications development in C/C++

  • Leadership experience in managing a software development team.

  • Strong proficiency in Java (minimum 2 years of experience).

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision when required.

  • A passion for learning and a willingness to stay up-to-date with advancements in the field.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with object-oriented software design principles.

  • Experience with Android device interface coding (e.g., USB, kiosk mode configuration, system settings).

  • Experience with development environment utilities like BitBucket, JIRA, and Jenkins.

  • Experience with diagnostic medical devices development.

  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies.

  • Proficiency with common office productivity tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Experience with any of the following is a plus: Java, Android, Kotlin, C#, Python, Django, Linux, microcontrollers (e.g., MSP430, dsPIC), networking protocols (Ethernet, Bluetooth, WiFi), mobile or web development, motion control systems, stepper motors, analog and digital hardware.
