TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION E049 Transportation Specialist I - IV in Beaumont, Texas

Provides technical expertise and coordination for transportation programs involving design, building construction projects, construction of transportation systems, traffic operations, maintenance of highways and facilities, or bridge inspection and appraisal in accordance with Department standards. Assists with project planning and the development of policies and procedures for area of responsibility. Work requires contact with governmental officials, consultants, contractors and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Transportation Specialist I:Assists in prioritizing and scheduling projects.Assists with administering and monitoring district maintenance contracts and service agreements. Assists with project assignments and determining work requirements to complete project plans and coordinates schedulingto accommodate projects already underwayCoordinates communication between district/division/Department of Public Safety and other external entities.Coordinates maintenance material purchasingCoordinates programs and projects to enhance efficiency and streamline operations.Transportation Specialist II:The above mentioned responsibilities and:Serves as coordinator responsible for coordination of advanced engineering/architectural projects frominitiation to completion.Assists in prioritizing and scheduling projects.Assists with administering and monitoring district maintenance contracts and service agreements.Assists with project assignments and determining work requirements to complete project plans and coordinates schedulingto accommodate projects already underway.Coordinates and performs interim and final inspections to identify deficiencies.Coordinates design work among TxDOT entitiesCoordinates maintenance material purchasingDevelops and monitors budgets.Provides technical expertise and coordination for maintenance operations including prioritizing projects, monitoringcorrespondence and writing memorandums and reports.Represents the Department at various meetingsPerforms other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Specialist III:The above mentioned responsibilities and:Consults with Department personnel, manufacturers and/or vendors regarding equipment operation, design, installation,equipment failure, complex repairs or replacement recommendations.Ensures compliance with specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, and regulations; and the Texas Manual on UniformTraffic Control Devices.Implements proper traffic control procedures and safety precautions at construction sites to preclude traffic congestionand accidents; identifies utility locations and directs use of proper equipment.Implements proper traffic control procedures and safety precautions at construction sites to preclude traffic congestionand accidents; identifies utility locations and directs use of proper equipment.May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.Oversees the Maintenance Management Information System.Oversees the Pavement Evaluation System.Transportation Specialist IV: The above mentioned responsibilities and:Evaluates and analyzes highly complex design issues.Performs complex data collection, evaluations, analyses, stufies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development.Provides technical assistance in resolving construction problems related to contract administration.Inspects construction methods, workmanship and maintenance procedures to ensure contractors build, install, maintain and repair trafic control/data collection related equipment or facilities in accordance with plans, specifications and contract requirements.Inspects roadwats and evaluates road conditions.
