JOB DESCRIPTION:

Dietary Aides support the health and nutrition of residents by assisting with food preparation services while upholding strict sanitation and safe handling procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves meals that are timely, palatable, appetizing in appearance and are in accordance with established portion control procedures and therapeutic diets.

  • Assists in daily or scheduled cleaning duties in accordance with established policies and procedures to include but not limited to work tables, meat blocks, refrigerators/freezers, sweep/mop floors as directed, carry soiled utensils/dishes to work areas, wash and clean utensils as directed, empty trash containers into dumpsters, clean cans and replace trash can liners.

  • Keeps work area dry and free of hazards and sanitizes dining room tables and chairs.

  • Operates dish machine using proper sanitizing and safety techniques. Racks, rinses and feeds dishes into dish machine.

  • Washes pots and pans as per facility policies and procedures.

  • Places groceries, meats and supply items in appropriate storage areas as directed.

  • Transfers food trucks from dietary department to assigned areas in a safe and timely manner.

  • Follows all safety regulations, infection control/universal precautions, food safety regulations and facility policies and procedures.

  • Utilizes and maintains all equipment appropriately, i.e.: dish machine, coffee urn, refrigerators, mixers, blender, toaster.

  • Reports all hazardous conditions/equipment and accident/incidents to shift supervisor.

  • Prepares and portions food items such as desserts, salads, juices, coffee, and nourishments.

  • Assists in inventory and proper storing of foods, supplies, etc. as directed.

  • Accurately take and record temperatures of food, beverages and equipment as directed by the Food Service Director, Assistant Food Service Director and/or Dietary Supervisor every meal.

  • Provides cleaning and busing of tables in dining rooms as instructed, in a courteous manner.

  • Makes efforts to ensure that patient/resident’s needs and preferences are accommodated, i.e.: alternate menus offered, special request nourishments/snacks provided upon request, etc.

  • Cooperates and embraces change, implements new procedures as directed and actively seeks new ways to contribute to the team to improve the department’s performance.

  • Maintains resident rights.

  • Maintains HIPAA privacy, security and confidentiality standards.

  • Follows all established policies and procedures.

  • Follows universal Precautions and Infection Control techniques.

  • Maintains Corporate Compliance standards.

  • Contributes to facility Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives.

  • Follows safety procedures by keeping areas free of hazardous conditions.

  • Economical and careful with supplies and equipment.

  • Comes to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrates dependability and punctuality.

  • Comes to work in neat, clean attire and consistently presents an appropriate professional appearance.

  • This individual continuously exhibits and fosters a spirit of teamwork, positive attitude and conflict resolution among co-workers.

  • Reports perceived problems to supervisor. Contributes ideas to rectify identified problems and follows corrective actions as directed by the supervisor.

  • Reliably performs duties with measured accuracy, timeliness and independence.

  • Sets high standards, seeking to “raise the bar”, exhibits commitment to strive for and exceed expectations.

  • Effectively communicates, assists, and cooperates with other personnel and interdisciplinary teams. Exhibits an attitude of helpfulness, team spirit and support to all team members.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Minimum- some food service experience required

  • Previous dietary experience preferred

  • High degree of personal cleanliness and hygiene required; health status suitable for food service required

  • Ability to read and understand work assignments, as well as report verbally and provide written documentation as necessary

  • Respect for residents’ privacy and rights; display of genuine concern and empathy for the elderly

  • Able to perform tasks while upholding high standards of quality, cleanliness, and kindness

  • Qualities of responsibility, diplomacy, and ability to work well with fellow staff members

  • Physical endurance for frequent activity
