Nestle Machinist (1st shift, 7am-3:30pm) in Bayport, New York

Must have basic proficiency of English language to comply with verbal and written directions, signs, policies and procedures.

Machinist will be working with toolroom style CNC vertical mill and lathe, CNC rotary grinder, manual lathe, mill, and surface grinders. Assemble and troubleshoot complex die assemblies in a collaborative work environment.

Primary Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, document sequence of operations, and setup requirements.

• Work with Team Leads and Customer service on part quotations.

• Ability to lead improvement projects from concept thru production

• Design and manufacture advanced work holding, jaws and fixtures.

• Effectively collaborate externally with vendors and tool representatives on improvement projects.

• Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines as necessary to machine parts as required.

• Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media according to established guidelines and procedures.

• Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls as required.

• Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications, using measuring and inspection tools as necessary thru 1st article inspection process.

• Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.

• Performs routine maintenance tasks on machines as required.

• Confers with design/engineers, assembly personnel, fabricators, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.

• Lead advanced problem-solving activities (GSTD).

• Maintain a clean and organized work area and maintain all equipment, to like new appearance.

• Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, contractors, co-workers, and management.

• Continue to grow lean knowledge and use the tools to identify and assist with continuous improvement.

• Willingness to accept and receive feedback and coaching.

• Ensure that safe work practices are followed and adhered to.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate degree or vocational certificate from two-year college or technical school or military equivalent.

• 5+ years of experience operating machine tools required- Proficient with manual machining operations (lathe, mill, surface grinding). Strong mechanical acumen.

• CNC Programming experience is required.

• Experience with CAD or similar programs preferred but not required

• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as portability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

The approximate hourly pay for this position is $26.80-$33.49. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location.​
