The Quality Assurance (QA) Floor Technician reports to the QA Supervisor and this vital role is responsible for ensuring the quality and food safety of all mixed, deposited, baked, topped, finished, and packaged cakes during the assigned shift. This role also involves actively participating in the onboarding process for new hires during their training period.

QA Floor Technicians are informed and aware of their role in monitoring activities to meet regulatory requirements for food safety. QA Floor Technicians are responsible for reporting food safety issues to personnel with the authority to take action andare expected to exemplify appropriate behavior, attitude, and respect for others while maintaining a continuous improvement mentality and fostering a culture of food safety through their attitude and actions.

Responsibilities
  • Interacts professionally with all other departments (production, receiving, shipping, sanitation, safety, and maintenance).
  • Supports shop floor managers, supervisors and leads by verifying food safety and quality compliance in all departments; inspects and evaluates raw materials, packaging materials, intermediate ingredients, and finished product.
  • Has authority to stop operations and to initiate and administer quality and food safety holds
  • Provide direction to shop floor personnel in sanitary and pest-control procedures.
  • Supports shop floor managers, supervisors and leads with reviewing PQG [product quality guarantee] paperwork for conformity to specifications.
  • Conducts pre-operational inspections; direct re-cleaning of equipment and work areas; provides final authorization to release departmental equipment and lines. Communicates with Shift Managers, Department Supervisors, and Department Leads when departments can resume operations.
  • Adheres to SOPs and work instructions as well as provides input for improvements.
  • Conducts GMP inspections.
  • Conducts on-shift product review evaluations
  • Reports on quality and food safety non-conformances to Department Leadership in a timely manner; escalates to QA Supervisor and/or QA Manager
  • Compiles all respective paperwork
  • Attends and participates in all appropriate meetings (i.e. Quality Huddles, shift handovers, staff meetings, training, etc.).
  • Follows all safety procedures in accordance with company requirements and OSHA
  • Supports QA Leadership with new hire onboarding through job shadowing and observations
  • Performs inventories of assigned QA supplies.
  • Works on other duties that may be assigned by QA Leadership
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent. A degree or certification in food science, microbiology, or a related field is a plus.
  • Previous experience in quality assurance or quality control within a food production or bakery environment preferred.
  • Basic understanding of ood safety regulations and standards, such as HACCP, SQF, FDA, and USDA guidelines.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Strong attention to detail and observation skills.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations and measurements.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and accountability.
  • Team player with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.

What we prefer:

  • Experience in QA in a food manufacturing environment. Bakery preferred.
  • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access).
  • Prior knowledge of SQF and HACCP concepts

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • To include ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to push and pull, occasional use of pallet jack for Finished Goods library sample storage.
  • Ability to work in hot-cold environment (freezer -10F cooler 40F) and Oven room/area 99F.
  • Ability to work in moderate high noise environment (PPE provided).
  • Ability to work with chemicals (PPE provided).
