Job Description

Grace is hiring a Production Engineer to join our Specialty Chemical Manufacturing team at our Orangeburg, SC site where we produce metal alkyls. As a Production Engineer y ou will report to the Senior Operations Manager at the site.

You will be responsible for tracking and managing production and yield rates, quality performance data and troubleshoot any process issues outside of target range. Additional responsibilities include the following:

Responsibilities

  • Track and develop plan to improve plant OEE including availability, performance and first pass quality.

  • Identify and lead Continuous Improvement Projects with emphasis on manufacturing cost reduction, capacity improvements/cycle time reductions, energy and waste reduction, and process reliability.

  • Work with different work groups (Maintenance, I&E, Safety, Logistics, and Vendors) to ensure process is compliant and meets targets.

  • Create, maintain, and manage process PSM information like operating procedures, block flow diagrams, process and instrumentation diagrams, and mass/energy balances.

  • Proved process engineering expertise for Management of Change, Process Hazard Analysis, and Root Cause Investigations.

  • Create and manage Management of Change for processing area and complete all required tasks, including pre-startup safety review.

  • Conduct Root Cause Investigations.

  • Participate in plant shut down, startup, and turnaround activities, as well as project commissioning and plant trials.

  • Perform permit audits, safety observations, management walk arounds, and other safety initiatives.

  • Knowledge in batch reactors, distillation, heat exchangers, pumps, filters, DCS programming, PSM documentation, and environmental regulations.

  • Understand and utilize operating cost drivers to contribute to production plans and schedules.

  • Must be available to receive calls, and if needed, go to the site to address urgent issues that may arise, that could be on nights and weekends.

  • Provide back up support for Operations Manager when needed.

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.

  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator

  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.

  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials

Required Qualifications

  • B. S. degree in Chemical Engineering.

  • 5+ years of experience in process, production and/or manufacturing engineering within the chemical or petrochemical industrial manufacturing environment.

  • Proficient in MS Office suite applications.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Detail oriented.

  • Team player.

  • Self-starter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience at a PSM site.

  • Work experience handling highly hazardous chemicals.

  • Work experience with batch reactors, distillation, DCS programming, process mechanical equipment, PSM documentation, and environmental regulations.

  • Work experience with liquid, solid and slurry processes.
