Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Four years of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

College credit which includes six semester hours per year in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.

Completion of a two year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering will substitute for two years of the required experience.

Training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or parks building and grounds work will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience. Training will be credited in six month increments.

NOTES:

Qualifying mechanical trades include Mobile Equipment Maintenance Mechanic, Trades Apprentice doing mechanic work, Machinist, Mobile Equipment Master Mechanic, and Mobile Equipment Overhaul Mechanic. Experience as construction superintendent, project manager or project leader in construction involving no hands-on trades experience will not be considered qualifying.

NOTE:

Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Function Statement:

The overall function of this position is supervision, tracking, scheduling, and inspection of all facilities repair work with regards to carpentry, plumbing, building maintenance, and other associated facilities maintenance. This position is located in District 61, Unit 701 Baton Rouge Office of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Facility Maintenance Manager A. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or with minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals and directives.

Job Duties:

55% Performs, plans, directs, and supervises Carpenters, Plumbers, and Maintenance Repairers in the performance of all maintenance activities related to the District’s needs including; buildings/facilities, grounds, and associated equipment. Actively inspects district facilities and grounds to develop a short and long term prioritized work schedule for maintenance. Incumbent may be required to perform a variety of maintenance construction/repair activities such as; plumbing, electrical, carpentry, catch basins, curb forms, bride rails, deck forms, metal buildings, concrete, painting, ventilation, air conditioning, welding, windows, locks, desks, doors, mowing and general grounds maintenance, masonry, fence repairs, and all other building and facilities maintenance related activities.

10% Regularly inspects and evaluates work in progress and upon completion

10% Makes sketches of proposed changes/repairs as well as cost estimates for man-hours and materials

10% Evaluates and documents work performance of direct reports

5% Requisitions materials as needed

5% Coordinates with other district personnel when assistance is needed

5% Will be required to perform other duties as necessary including but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
