JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Mechanical Technician/Technologist
Reporting to the Senior Manager Maintenance/Production, this position is responsible to maintain, install and troubleshoot mechanical equipment and systems, covering all areas of welding, pipefitting, rigging, machining, millwrighting, testing and drafting (civil and mechanical). Carry out contract coordination and prepare quality control procedures.
*KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES *
Install, commission, inspect, troubleshoot, service, maintain and overhaul all mechanical equipment and components associated with generating stations and facilities. Take appropriate preventative or corrective action.
Maintain and operate precision machines, test equipment and shop tools required to carry out work assignments, including the fabrication of components and the use of specialized tooling. *
Carry out equipment noise, balancing and vibration measurements for maintenance of stationary and rotating equipment, and testing of mechanical equipment to ASME code standards and procedures.
Fabricate, assemble and repair metal components, including highest level of welding required.
Perform a wide variety of non-destructive examinations/testing (NDE/NDT Level 1) of major and auxiliary equipment. Perform studies associated with the development or acquisition of NDT techniques/ equipment.
Co-ordinate large projects related to the installation of new systems or the replacement of existing systems with different technologies. Carry out contract coordination and inspections to ensure effective quality assurance.
Align machines using precision equipment such as dial indicators and laser-alignment tools.
Perform work protection code (WPC) activities up to the level trained.
QUALIFICATIONS
Grade 12 or equivalent, and two year college diploma in a related field of study. Relevant field of education includes: Mechanical Engineering Technician/Technologist; Mech Tech/Technologist; Industrial Mechanic Millwright; Electromechanical Engineering Technology
5+ years of experience as Red Seal qualified journeyperson preferred. (433A)
Preference will be granted to those candidates who possess one or more of the following skillsets:
Pressure boundary welding – vessel and piping repairs, fabrication, etc.
Large valve and pump maintenance experience.
Knowledge with drawing, blueprints, sketches comfortable reading and understanding.
Experience in preventative and corrective maintenance activities in large industrial environment.
Ability to assess, plan and execute work in an organized, efficient and safe manner.
Knowledge of large thermal power plant equipment, rotating machinery and/or large industrial machines is an asset
Crane operating experience is an asset

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
