Custom Job Purpose:

This position exists to perform responsible work in the planning, coordinating and supervising of operations, personnel and equipment within the Maintenance Department. Responsibilities include oversight of the maintenance and repair functions at all district owned facilities as well as repair and preventative maintenance of all mechanical systems.

Essential Functions of this Job

Directs and coordinates maintenance and operations with site administrators and services specialists. Provides guidance and direction to assist each site in meeting the district's mission. Communicates with site administrator and/or other Facilities and Operations personnel to coordinate maintenance activities, exchange information and to resolve conflicts that may arise. Develops and prepares the annual budget and analyzes and reviews financial and budgetary data. Monitors and authorizes spending. Supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned staff and interviews and recommends new employees as well as transfers, reassignments and disciplinary actions. Schedules appropriate training programs for the safety and continued education of all Maintenance Department employees. Implements plans for routine, proactive preventative maintenance. Formulates and develops procedures to comply with federal, state and local regulations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Good oral and written communication, decision making, critical thinking and organization skills. Knowledge of building maintenance, supply inventory, equipment and mechanical systems. Familiarity with current codes and standards. Experience with a personal computer, software and a work order management system preferred. Ability to supervise assigned personnel and maintain a working relationship with school personnel, architects, engineers and contractors. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.

Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor#s degree in engineering, building construction, business administration, public administration or equivalent or at least five years of experience in school plant maintenance or construction at a management level. Experience in scheduling, accounting and budgetary oversight is preferred.

Work Context:

Requires some sitting and standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires coordinating or leading others in accomplishing work activities. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, cell phones and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires making decisions that affect other people, the financial resources and/or the image and reputation of the district. Opportunity to make decisions without supervision. Responsible for work outcomes and results. Requires work with both internal and external contacts and with the public.

Physical Environment:

Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Requires sitting for the majority of the day and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects infrequently weighing up to 20 pounds. Requires travel to schools and worksites within the district.
