Custom Job Purpose:

This position exists to perform professional accounting responsibilities in the financial operations of the school district.

Essential Functions of this Job

Assists the Senior Manager of Budget in the development, analysis and execution of the district budget. Provides advice and technical assistance in the preparation of the annual budget. Examines budget estimates or proposals for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with established procedures, regulations, and organizational objectives. Reviews transactions for proper classification and advises of needed budget changes. Examines past and current budgets, and researches economic and legislative developments that affect the district's spending. Maintains Charter Budget, payments, and tracks financial stability. Assists in the development of guidelines and policies governing the formulation and maintenance of the district budget. Conducts training sessions for district budget procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Requires strong analytical skills and familiarity with word processing and financial software packages used in budget analysis including Microsoft Office Products and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) packages. Must be able to work under strict time constraints. Ability to work with other departments in budget development and to support other staff assigned to this function. Knowledge of school finance laws, rules, and policies relative to budget procedures. Must have strong oral and written communication skills. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.

Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree required, in Accounting, Finance, Business or Public Administration preferred. Considerable experience in government accounting.

Work Context:

Requires some sitting and standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires work with internal and external contacts, and with the public.

Physical Environment:

Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions and outdoors at times. Requires sitting for the majority of the day, and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects frequently weighing up to 20 pounds and infrequently weighing more than 20 pounds. Requires travel to work locations and schools within the District.
