Custom Job Purpose:
This position exists to perform professional accounting duties in the financial operations of the school district.
Essential Functions of this Job
Assists in the functions of financial accounting, budget control, and financial reporting. Reviews transactions for proper classification and advises of needed budget changes. Maintains records in order to prepare required monthly reports related to grants that have been obtained by the district Assists in the preparation of the district budget and financial reports for use by local, state and federal administrators and agencies. Assists in preparation of entries necessary to post accounting transactions and adjust or close the records at month and/or year end. Assists in banking activities by preparing the monthly cash advance request for federal projects. Assists in the development of policies related to assigned areas of responsibility.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of accounting principles and practices. Familiar with the district's budgeting procedures for the various funds. Ability to work with other departments in grant development and budgeting. Ability to support other staff assigned to this function. Knowledge of school finance laws, rules, and policies relative to various grants under control of this position. Proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office Products and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) packages needed to produce automated reports to DOE for monthly federal reports and year-end financial reports. Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.
Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in finance-related field preferred. Considerable experience in governmental accounting and/or auditing preferred.
Work Context:
Requires some sitting and standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires work with internal and external contacts, and with the public.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
