Washington County Mental Health Services Registered Nurse (RN) - CDS Residential in Barre, Vermont

Summary of Position:

Full time RN to provide nursing services to multiple Developmental Services residential programs in the Barre area. Position to include things such as; educate and delegate unlicensed assistive personnel, monitor and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, advocate and intervene to promote wellness of residents, and to encourage and promote community inclusion for all residents. 

Position is full time (40) hours per week and is based in Barre. Must have solid clinical skills to apply to clients of widely varied ages and health care needs, and further challenged by developmental or mental health needs. Flexibility, excellent communication and critical thinking skills required.

Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong administrative and medical assessment skills.  Experience working with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities population desired.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Ability to generate protocols and procedures as resident health conditions dictate.

  • Scheduling and attending all medical, dental, psychiatric and specialist appointments as needed.

  • Assure that all medications are in place, ordered, renewed and ready for medication administration by residential support staff.

  • Assure that all staff are delegated for medication administration and special care procedures.

  • Coordinate and/or teach all annual medically related training to residential support staff: including Body Positioning, Seizure Disorders, Infection Control, Medication Administration, etc.

  • Promote respectful and effective communication between all partners; residents, staff, medical professionals, vendors etc.

  • The ability to work independently, as well as a team member, and to serve as an example of professional nursing excellence.

  • Support the nursing department as needed – coverage, trainings, etc.

    Physical Requirements

    Candidates must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Must also have the strength to pull and push. Another physical demand of nurses is standing for long periods of time. Time will also be spent in an office type setting.

    Qualifications:

  • Willingness to use own vehicle, if necessary.  Must have a valid driver’s license, possess an excellent driving record, and have access to a safe, reliable, insured vehicle. 

  • R.N. with current Vermont license.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
