UL, LLC Senior Solar PV Project Manager (Technical Due Diligence) in Barcelona, Spain

Join UL Solutions as a Senior Project Manager, driving Independent Engineering (IE) and Technical Advisory (TA) services for solar project financing, sales, and acquisitions. Be at the forefront of solar energy advancements while collaborating with top-tier clients and a multi-disciplinary team.

The role can be hybrid from Barcelona (or Dubai) or remote from Madrid.

  • Project Leadership: Oversee high-profile solar projects, including technology assessments, design reviews (civil and electrical), and evaluations of CAPEX/OPEX, contracts, schedules, and permitting. Conduct site visits and monitor construction progress.

  • Risk Mitigation: Identify potential project risks and propose effective mitigation strategies, leveraging best practices and lessons learned.

  • Reporting Excellence: Compile comprehensive IE and TA reports, synthesizing technical and commercial insights into clear, actionable recommendations. Maintain exceptional quality to exceed client expectations.

  • Client Engagement: Act as the primary interface with lenders and developers, fostering strong relationships through proactive communication and innovative problem-solving.

  • Proposals & Strategy: Prepare compelling proposals, including scopes of work, budgets, and timelines. Support business development efforts to expand UL Solutions' solar due diligence services.

  • Team Collaboration: Coordinate efforts across internal teams, project managers, and external stakeholders to ensure seamless project delivery on time and within budget.

  • Mentorship: Guide and develop junior staff, contributing to team growth and excellence.

  • Industry Representation: Represent UL Solutions at conferences and client meetings, positioning the company as a leader in solar energy due diligence.

We’re seeking a seasoned professional with a strong technical foundation and a passion for renewable energy. Ideal candidates will possess the following:

Experience

  • Project Management Expertise: At least 7 years managing renewable energy projects, including solar or energy storage due diligence, project development, construction, equipment supply, operations, or M&A.

  • Utility-Scale Solar Projects: Demonstrated experience with the design, development, and review of utility-scale solar PV projects, including PV modules, inverters, trackers, and other Balance of System (BOS) components.

  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS): Hands-on experience with BESS and familiarity with key concepts such as degradation, augmentation, and round-trip efficiency is a plus.

Education & Knowledge

  • Academic Background: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, Finance). A Master’s degree in Renewable Energy or a related discipline is a strong advantage.

Technical Acumen:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of solar technologies and the ability to evaluate key project metrics (KPIs).

  • High-level understanding of energy modeling for solar PV projects.

  • Familiarity with contractual reviews for EPC, O&M, PPAs, asset management agreements, and credit agreements.

  • Experience in defining and reviewing provisional acceptance and commissioning requirements.

Soft Skills:

  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and effectively.

  • Collaboration: Strong team player capable of managing multiple complex projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Language Skills

  • Primary: Fluency in Spanish (fluent) and English (proficient in both written and spoken communication).

  • Additional Languages: Proficiency in French or Portuguese would be a plus.
