Summary You will serve as a UTILITY SYSTEM REPAIRER-OPERATOR in the PRODUCTION DIVISION within the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC NORTHWEST. Responsibilities You will operate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair and test a variety of complex equipment and systems involving central plant steam distribution boilers and building boilers, including all associated auxiliary systems. You will perform and document flow test saltwater distribution system. You will use computers and standard software for industrial controls. You will operate all boiler plant and auxiliary equipment to produce and control the amount of steam necessary to meet demands including proper operation of pollution control equipment. You will collect water samples, perform chemical tests and chemical treatment to prevent scale and corrosion. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: 1) Assisting in operating all boiler plant and/or auxiliary equipment to produce and control the amount of steam necessary to meet demands; 2) Performing maintenance and repair on piping, valves and pumps associated with utility systems; 3) Using industrial power equipment such as power saws, hand and machine pipe threading equipment, and metal working equipment to include welders, plasma cutters and oxy-acetylene torches, grinders, and test equipment such as pyrometers, ohmmeters, and flow meters.
