As an Engineering Specialist for Electrification & Energy Solutions division, you will technically be directing and participating in complex battery engineering projects through simulations, recipe selection and validation of complex & advanced battery chemistries. This will involve working with chief technical stewards in a global environment and delivering battery programs. Developing standard work and processes for complex engineering problems and provide technical guidance to young engineers in the team. This role directly impacts Caterpillar’s current and future Battery and electrification product line in R&D environment.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Primary contributor in developing product strategies working closely with chief engineers and technical stewards

  • Primary contributor in developing 1-D physics-based and/or empirical models for battery systems & components

  • Primary contributor to battery degradation modelling and define long term strategy for modelling

  • Primary contributor to technical requirements definition and translating them to development activities in battery programs

  • Lead and participate on product gateway reviews and technical forums to develop novice solutions

  • Technical guidance to junior engineers on performing daily tasks

  • Develop test procedures & processes for battery systems validation

  • Perform complex analysis, identify, and solve challenging problems in battery modelling and performance data

  • Lead and contribute to solving complex field-follow problems in a time-bound manner

  • Interacting with external suppliers and customers to deliver technical solutions

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. / Post Doc in Mechanical/Chemical/ Electrical Engineering with more than 3-5 years’ experience

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical/Chemical/ Electrical Engineering with 10-15 years’ experience

  • Relevant experience with product development and research in areas like Battery and/or other alternate power sources

  • Experience with graphical and computational modelling tools like MATLAB, Simulink, Simscape, COMSOL, GTLion 1D/3D, Amesim Battery modelling Altium, etc

  • Deep technical expertise in various battery chemistries and experience working on them directly

  • Deep understanding of validation processes, tools and analysis methods used for Battery development

  • Deep technical understanding of battery performance factors that affect battery performance.

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills

  • Self-starter with strong technical leadership skills

  • Enjoys working in a fast paced, technically challenging environment

  • Enjoys acquiring new technical skills

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Experience and knowledge with Battery Management control system

  • Experience and Knowledge of Battery Thermal simulation

  • Ph.D./Post doc in an accredited Indian or Global Engineering schools

  • Manages global customer interaction effectively

  • Enjoys project Ownership
