AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS. Within AWS UC, Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) roles engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

The Amazon Aurora Platform team focuses on building scalable control plane services and patterns to support the rapid growth of Aurora.

Aurora Limitless Database makes it easy for you to scale your relational database workloads by providing a serverless endpoint that automatically distributes data and queries across multiple Amazon Aurora Serverless instances while maintaining the transactional consistency of a single database. Aurora Limitless Database offers capabilities such as distributed query planning and transaction management, eliminating the need for you to create custom solutions or manage multiple databases to scale. As your workloads increase, Aurora Limitless Database adds additional compute resources while staying within your specified budget, so there is no need to provision for peak, and compute automatically scales down when demand is low. With Amazon Aurora Limitless Database we aim to do nothing less than revolutionize the database business taking steps of scale-out approach and providing managed sharding of the data.

We are looking for experienced, passionate and curious engineering leaders to innovate with us on behalf of our customers. In this role, you will lead teams that design and implement systems that orchestrate thousands of databases. Your team will build and continue to innovate in area of a foundational building block to secure high performant communication mechanism for distributed database system of Aurora Limitless Database. You will lead team in designing, implementing, and owning high and low level system components make Aurora Limitless Database highly available, scalable, reliable and fast. You will participate in product direction and road-map planning, project execution scheduling and hiring engineers.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of engineering experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

  • Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

  • 3+ years of designing and taking part in implementing (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
