The role falls under Sustainability Software division of IBM Software Labs, and we are looking for experts in product development, particularly in enterprise software development, systems, networking, distributed systems, databases, or data processing frameworks; who is at ease with industry-standard web architectures, including middleware, server setup, load balancing, reverse proxy, networking, deployment, security and common change and migration processes; who can optimize and is able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment, to maximize speed and scale for our cloud based, multi-tiered, enterprise products.

Your Role and Responsibilities

The IBM Sustainability Software team is seeking a talented software developer to join our innovative and dynamic work environment. As a software development engineer, you will work alongside experienced professionals towards a common goal of delivering high-quality products to our clients. As a Full Stack Developer with our Product Development Team, you will transition seamlessly between backend and front end coding responsibilities, through the sprint lifecycle. You will proactively seek for improvement opportunities and will focus on innovation that matters; by learning new technologies and methods that can positively impact the product roadmap. This role requires scheduled after hours paging for high-severity events related to all of the team's deployments. Paging availability is required for after-hours weekday, weekend and holiday coverage. The pager rotates throughout the team to balance the load.

In this role, you will be a member for the 'SCBN Standard and Premium' Product Development Team and is responsible for solving our customer's uniquely complex problems. You'll closely collaborate with the wider Protocols Squad to manage delivery of code to cater to the product's roadmap needs and to support our highly available SaaS multi-tenant platform. This is an exciting opportunity to learn at a low level how the industry leading Supply Chain products works and to learn from a large group of very talented engineers. You will be part of a strong, agile, and culture-driven development team responsible for building the Supply Chain Product for tomorrow.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to :

  • Design, develop and deploy new product features and enhancements

  • Triage product or system level issues, debug and ultimately resolve them by analyzing various sources

  • Perform code reviews on code built by other developers and ensure best practices are being followed

  • Bring best-in-class engineering practices across software development cycle starting from requirements review, coding, testing and security to providing client support

  • Follow software development processes based on agile methodologies

  • Participate in user story identification and analysis towards building self-correcting supply chains

  • Collaborate with stakeholders such as product owners, architects, engineering managers, and other business partners to investigate new designs, create prototypes and evaluate technical feasibility

  • Proactively research new technologies that can drive improvements and innovations for our products

  • Contribute to existing documentation and peer education post product updates or enhancements.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 3 -5 years of non-internship professional software development experience in FullStack Software Development

  • Expertise working with Java and at least one more of the following languages: Python, JavaScript, Kotlin, Ruby, Go, Rust, Swift

  • Strong Knowledge of Spring Boot framework

  • Experience in working with Cloud infrastructure (VPC, Kubernetes/OpenShift, Istio, Akamai etc )

  • Experience in projects including feature development, troubleshooting, production support, and customization based on business requirements.

  • Familiarity with SQL / NoSQL databases (DB2, Mongo, Couchbase etc)

  • Exposure to JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript libraries like JQuery, node.js, OR angular.js

  • Knowledge on web development, API's, and web services.

  • Familiarity on TypeScript, DOM, JSON, CSS Frameworks, HTTP

  • Ability to design and develop for Security Best Practises

  • Proficient in source control management tools (GitHub, Jenkins) and with Agile Life Cycle Management tools (Jira, Zenhub)

  • Experience with CI/CD and build pipelines

  • Familiarity with Agile Scrum

  • Proficient in Linux & Windows server environments

  • Self-motivated towards meeting agreed goals

  • Innovate in the areas of Product Engineering

  • Open for Cross Time Zone Collaboration

  • An ability to work remotely and use conference and collaboration tools effectively.

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Be familiar with latest Cloud Architectures, Migrations and Development of APIs

  • Exposure to Supply Chain Domain & Software Stack (eg. Sterling Integrator, GIODE, IBM VAN, SAP Adapter etc)

  • Knowledge of automation tools and power scripting

  • Experience in implementing communication protocols like AS2, AS4, FTP/FTPs, SFTP/POP3, HTTP/HTTPS, OFTP/OFTP2, CD Secure+ etc for Business to Business applications.

  • Experience of writing code to target high performance server and client side environments

  • Strong Communication, Presentation & Soft skills.
