Job Description:

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

JOB PURPOSE:

Collaborative, accurate and rapid release and communication of engineering data into multiple global systems and facilities. This is the second career level in this division-wide global technical group and represents a shift to fully contributing in projects that are moderately complex, and occasionally challenging in nature.

JOB DUTIES:

Working largely independently, with support as required, the incumbent works as a key member of multiple multi-functional NPI / Non-NPI teams. The incumbent will collaborate with product engineers and other key personnel to accurately author product introduction and change information, in the ECN spreadsheet and SAP change master, to effectively communicate engineering change information to global downstream business partners. Responsibilities include assisting with cross functional collaboration to ensure all required implementation dates are available and challenged as appropriate to allow for successful change implementation.

The incumbent is responsible for the validation and creation of material masters in a timely fashion to support ECN; aftermarket; design to order and component plants for multiple brands in multiple SAP systems. In addition, they are responsible for the creation and manipulation of optimal BoM structures to support global manufacturing facilities, and final checks and approvals in engineering systems.

MDC Engineers / technologists apply their system; process; technical and product knowledge to prioritize and resolve inbox tasks and incidents, coaching less experienced team members on issues and providing input to or leading 1-Page DMAIC discussions, as required, to ensure successful identification of root cause and permanent corrective action. The ability to communicate highly complex, technical information to non-technical personnel, interpret, analyze and diagnose, identify and implement solutions with the appropriate sense of urgency are critical to success in this role.

Decisions made by the incumbent will impact inventory; costing; operations; aftermarket availability and NPI & Non-NPI process execution velocity. The incumbent anticipates system / process challenges and continuous improvement opportunities associated with their current NPI / Non-NPI projects within the MDC space. They take the lead to identify alternatives, risks and interrelationships of the functional areas involved and assure timely communications among related areas in order to support the creation of an execution orientated, risk managed solution. The incumbent will adhere to the control standards set by the Master Data Support team, and guide less experienced team members to do the same.

MDC engineers / technicians will assist in the technical training and coaching of less experienced team members and will actively contribute to the quarterly technical peer reviews. The incumbent will be responsible for managing their own development, continuously learning through experience and keeping current with best practice.

National & international travel may occasionally be required to support collaboration, learning and development, and project execution.

Success factors:

• Staying abreast of SAP technology developments is required to ensure the PC&DM are evolving new techniques and processes, which will aid NPI and engineering change velocity and improve product lifecycle quality. To make decisions, this position will work with an immediate work group or project team, division/business unit, and internal business partners. Decisions typically impact multiple divisional products, brands, global facilities, and customer experience.

Key skills and Knowledge requirements:

• Hands-on technical experience in ERP systems and SAP Material Master Creation/Maintenance and bills of material.

• Must be a team player with good communication and interpersonal skills.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 3+ years of relevant experience in ERP systems, SAP BOM and Material masters.

(Desired)
