Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

The Product Engineer-II will be responsible for product engineering activities on new and existing product ranges for Rugged Fibre optics product range that are for Military and commercial aerospace applications. The Product Engineer will work with Global and Local engineering teams to support product design, engineering analysis, proto build and testing. This will also require interactions with various cross functional teams across the organization.

Responsibilities:

1) To work on product engineering & development activities on existing product ranges: EN & MIL AERO Rugged fiber optics product ranges, connectors & cable harnesses. Involves working closely with global and local cross functional teams to provide engineering solutions.

2) To provide a structured design engineering approach from concept to production within agreed deadlines and with minimum variations, in accordance with LEAN product development methodology.

3) To create & modify detailed designs in line with the project requirements utilizing the expertise on CAD software like Creo & execute product change management using PDM Windchill.

4) Demonstrate and ensure products are designed for ease of manufacturing and assembly & provide technical support on product design, form and function

5) Ability to demonstrate product verification & design simulation capabilities using Creo-Simulate will be an added advantage.

6) Support prototype manufacturing and qualification testing, based on project requirements.

7) To work closely with the global engineering, project management teams, sales & operations teams on understanding the voice of customer, project requirements, costing.

8) To keep abreast of new technologies, materials and processes and use that information to initiate cost saving or product enhancing projects.

9) To contribute to achieving departmental targets – specifically on the KPIs related to product engineering activities.

10) To carry out any other reasonable tasks as may be requested from time to time by the Engineering Manager.

11) To observe Health and Safety regulations as laid down in company procedures and Government legislation.

Candidate Desired Profile:

Functional Skills:

• Experience in New product development, product design, problem analysis & solving.

• Expertise in modeling and detailing using CAD software: CREO.

• Good Knowledge and hands on experience in PDM windchill & PLM software.

• Hands on experience in design tools such as GD&T, DFMEA, DFM, DFA and Tolerance Stack ups.

• Good Knowledge of manufacturing processes like Molding, Stamping, Plating and other Metal Forming and plastic miniaturing processes.

• Knowledge in Creo simulate and basics of FEA.

• Knowledge in additive manufacturing process.

• Experience in Product Design involving Plastic and Sheet Metal & machined parts.

• Exposure and execution of Fiber optical product design.

• Selection of Fiber optics components.

• Good Problem solving and Analytical Skills.

• Product Testing & Qualification exposure is an advantage.

• Product knowledge on connectors, cable harness, relays is an advantage.

• Strong technical aptitude with willingness to learn new technologies.

• Exposure & knowledge on Electrical system design, harness, cabling.

• Knowledge of six sigma tools will be an added advantage.

• Knowledge of Global Certifications and Regulatory Standards (EN, MIL etc.) will be an added advantage.

Qualification & Experience:

• B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical engineering.

• About 7 to 9 years’ experience in Aerospace, Industrial Domain Industries.
