Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking Model Maker Machinists to join its Manufacturing team. This position is located in Linthicum, Maryland.

Primary Function: Utilizing both programmed and nonprogrammed equipment, determine and complete all tooling/manufacturing operations needed in the manufacture of assemblies and models for both production and engineering assemblies. Determine the need for and make all necessary tooling as required.

WORKIND PROCEDURE AND/OR RESPONSIBIITY ASSIGNED:

  • Requires the ability to use any machine tooling, manual and CNC controlled machine tooling and any machine shop equipment such as, but not limited to lathes, mills, shapers, drill presses, radial drills, grinders, etc. Should have a working knowledge of duplicators and boring mills, multi-axis CNC machinery.

  • Obtain all necessary information to perform job assignment and report any discrepancies to appropriate personnel. Plan, develop and manufacture all tools/manufactured hardware. Manufacture component parts for complete assemblies. This includes the manufacturing of assemblies that are experimental or developmental in nature.

  • Assemble or disassemble component parts to make complete mechanical units for engineering (walk up work orders).

  • Develop methods, fixtures and sequence testing units or equipment, troubleshooting mechanical problems and determine the most efficient method for manufacturing tools and component parts.

  • Using standard precision measurement equipment must able to verify that product meets all dimensional requirements and must possess knowledge of geometric tolerances and true position dimensioning.

  • Develop and maintain the ability to program manual CNC machining equipment utilizing models, drawings or sketches, etc.

  • Understanding code to modify and/or enhance code for efficiency/affordability (troubleshoot) on automatic CNC machines and report changes to appropriate personnel.

  • Perform data analysis utilizing a variety of software applications, i.e. SPC, Minitab, etc. to collect and compile data that may be required for design evaluations, failure analysis and/or provide visibility for planning, status, and trends necessary for the Company to develop schedules and forecasts.

  • Responsible for the set up and tear down of EOS M290 Metal Powder bed fusion machine and supporting equipment of the additive manufacturing process. This includes but is not limited to; Inspecting the Recoater Blade, Removing and Replacing the Recoater Blade, Installing Build Plate, Leveling Build Plate, and Inspecting and Cleaning F-Theta Lens Window.

  • Handling of fine metal powders including the loading and unloading of powder into Metal Powder bed fusion machine.

  • Perform day to day maintenance of machine and support equipment in support of the additive manufacturing process.

  • Attend training classes as required to obtain and retain the necessary skills to demonstrate proficiency in, but not limited to, the following machines and/or processes: CNC, EDM, CMM, Black Box, Bridgeport, Lathe, Tolerances.

  • Interface with appropriate personnel and review various technical manuals to maintain latest state-of-the-art technology.

This is an IUE Union represented position.

This is a 1st shift position.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

High school graduate or the equivalent.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

Minimum three (3) years Machine experience
