The University of Maryland School of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a part-time (20 hours/week) Simulation Training Specialist to join the Department of Anesthesiology.The Simulation Training Specialist supports the various training protocols for medical students, nurses, residents in various clinical departments, attending physicians, and other health care providers at the Maryland Advanced Simulation Technology Research Innovation (MASTRI) Center. The position is responsible for meeting with clinical simulation center clients to determine the best mode of simulation to meet objectives and expectations, including; design scenarios, programming, and case planning. The Simulation Specialist coordinates and maintains simulation center and audio/visual systems, as well as, coordinates and manages information technology assets of the Center. Primary Duties: * Responsible for the design and piloting of scenarios, skills stations, and training sessions and the development of assessment tools in collaboration with external stakeholders. * Provides structure and guidance to students, nurses, residents, physicians, and faculty during simulation. Educates on any introductory information for each scenario that may help participants perform better in the simulations. Presents each scenario to prior to beginning, and clarifies information to the participants. * In collaboration with faculty and physicians, assists in developing curriculum, student learning outcomes and educational materials for simulation scenarios and scripts. Participate in the development of simulation training materials such as manuals, online learning modules, self-test instruments, and course materials. Revise and modify simulation training materials as needed. * Maintain proficiency in existing and emerging technologies, and participate in technology training and attend conferences to stay current with simulation technology. * Serves as a technical expert who is able to set up, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair simulation equipment, hospital-type equipment used in simulation activities, and AV/IT equipment used in simulation activities. Instructs and assists simulation educators/faculty and learners in the use of technical equipment used in simulation. * Responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures for simulation and learning labs. Develops, implements, and maintains effective mechanisms for ongoing relationships/partnerships with department managers through participation in work groups/task forces and by assisting in the design of long range training/development plans. Education:Bachelor’s degree in clinical education, nursing, health sciences, or clinically related field. Preferred Education:Master’s degree in nursing or other clinically related field. Experience:Two (2) years of strong clinical experience with at least one (1) year in simulation technology, clinical teaching, or clinical education. Experience must demonstrate broad understanding of anatomy and physiology. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Instructor; or must successfully complete ACLS instructor course within first six months of employment. Other:Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Understand the use and operation of different simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and task trainers to screen-based simulation and full body patient simulators and virtual reality surgical simulators. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to simulator functions. *Hiring Range:$42,500 - $47,500 at 50% ($85,000 - $95,000 at 100%), commensurate with education and experience.
