The University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), Department of Medicine, Division ofEndocrinology, Diabetes, and Nutritionis currentlyrecruiting foraResearch Project Coordinator.This role is integral to the success of our research studies, focusing heavily on in-person recruitment efforts both on campus and at community events.The Research Project Coordinatoris responsible forcoordinating the day-to-day operations of research studies in the department. Project Overview: MyHealthy Maryland Precision Medicine Research is a long-term study developed by the University of Maryland School of Medicine’s Institute for Clinical and Translational Research. This project aims to create a resource representative of the diversity of Maryland to advance a broad range of health-related research, from understanding the genetic and molecular basis of rare and common health conditions to improving the value and efficiency of our healthcare system. Primary Duties: * Coordinate and communicate directly with theprogram director,principleinvestigator,study team members,andstudy participants, to manage the operation and evaluation activities of the research studies. * Collaboratewiththestudy team andactivelyparticipateinin-person recruitment efforts both on-campus and within the community, ensuring effective participant engagement and study visibility at community events. * Manage interactionswith subject participants, including eligibility screening, recruitment, enrollment, ensuring informed consent is properly secured and documented. * May obtain tissue and blood samples as necessary and collect information through interviews, questionnaires, test results, and charts.Enhance community engagement through active participation in local events. * Ensureoptimumefficiency and compliance withappropriate policies, procedures, and specifications. Adhere to good clinical practices, study protocols, and applicable regulations.Use evaluation techniques, originality, and ingenuity to resolve non-routine issues. * Coordinate the collection and management of study data by developing data collection instruments,establishingand maintaining databases, and performing data quality checks. * Ensureproficiencyin various software systems and databases essential for data entry, management, and analysis. * Develop and implement new processes to improve effectiveness and efficiency of data collection and evaluation. Track, report, and audit study data and regulatory study documentation,while continuously improving technical skills and adapting tonew technologies. * Monitor activities to ensure compliance with protocols and all relevant local, federal, and state regulatory and institutional policies.Assistin budget development, expenditure adherence, and maintenance of inventory on equipment and supplies. * Obtain, process, and transport specimens to theappropriate laboratoryaccording toestablishedaseptic technique. * Perform other related duties as assigned. Education:Bachelor's degree in nursing, emergency services, chemistry, biology, public health, psychologyor another scientific disciplineappropriate topositionrequired. Experience:Prior experience in clinical research or research or project coordination preferred. Other:May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials and/or ionizing radiation. May consider a combination ofdirectly relatedexperience and education. Except for qualificationsestablishedby law,additionalrelatedexperienceand formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilitiesrequiredfor full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Possesses a knowledge of research project requirements andabletoperform positionin compliance with all requirements/regulations/laws. Ability to understand andutilizedscientific/medical terminology and research theory. Ability tomaintainconfidentiality of client information obtained during treatmentin accordance withprofessional standards, HIPAA (Health Information Portability & Accountability Act) and FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) and state regulations. Ability to gain knowledge and meet the compliance and reporting needs of theuniversity’spolicies and practices for Institutional Review, Human Protections, Animal Protections, etc. Ability tomaintainhigh standardswith the work being performed andmaintainawareness with trends and influences. Assume personal responsibility for alloutcomes;makeseffective andtimelydecisions; andlearnshow to effectively use technology. Maintains productivity and uses strategies to increase knowledge base. Skill in continuouslyseekingto improve the quality of services and processes. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts.
