Johns Hopkins University Ophthalmic Technician in Baltimore, Maryland

We are seeking an Ophthalmic Technician who will be responsible for coordinating clinical compliance initiatives such as Environmental Rounds, and creation of NIPO’s. Serves as the primary point of contact for Wilmer staff members and external entities regarding clinical compliance questions/concerns. Serves as the “lead” ophthalmic technician in the Ophthalmic Technician Float Pool. Assists the Ophthalmic clinical Supervisor with hiring, training, scheduling and on-going development of the Float Tech Pool. Provides Administrative support to the program. Additionally, serves as an Ophthalmic Technician as necessary.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the Ophthalmic Technician Training Program Manager.

  • Perform all duties of a Tech.

  • Train new Ophthalmic Technicians in the Tech Float Pool.

  • Audit Tech Float Pool compliance with the Patient Identification protocol prior to performing any test.

  • Provide and assist techs with study guides in preparation to obtain IJCAHPO certification.

  • Coordinate Tech Float Pool coverage with each clinics’ Lead Technician and Manager.

  • Ensure scribe attestations are being appropriately documented.

  • Coordinate ordering and distribution of tech uniforms s annually and for new hires throughout the year.

  • Coordinates and participates in Environmental Rounds with each clinic’s Lead Tech, Supervisor, Manager, HEIC representative and SOM Safety Environment/Joint Commission rep

  • Fill in as Tech for any clinics that exceed Tech Float Pool capacity.

  • Coordinate the Annual Ophthalmic Technician Skills evaluation

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.

  • One year experience as an Ophthalmic Technician. Must obtain Certified Ophthalmic Asst (COA) from JCAHPO within 18 months of start date. CPR certification also required.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 50% of the time.

  • Ability to move about to escort patients to the exam rooms and different departments, gather and replace supplies, and stock rooms.

  • Constantly positions self to adjust ophthalmic equipment in order to perform exams.

  • Ability to manipulate extremely small objects.

  • The person in this position frequently communicates with patients. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

  • Ability to safely utilize various types of Ophthalmic Equipment to directly contact the patient’s eye.

  • Occasionally lifts and transports supplies up to 20 lbs.

  • Ability to concentrate on instruments and other visual stimuli.

  • Observation of and rapid reaction to changeable situations.

Starting Salary Range: $19.75 - $35.35 HRLY (Commensurate with experience)

Employee group: Full Time

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
