Johns Hopkins University Lifestyle Interventionist / Research Dietitian in Baltimore, Maryland

The THRIVE study at Johns Hopkins University seeks a highly motivated and skilled Lifestyle Interventionist/Research Dietitian to join our team. THRIVE is an innovative intervention that combines produce prescriptions, adaptive messaging, dietitian coaching, and linkages to social resources to improve adherence to the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet among Black adults with hypertension living in Healthy Food Priority Areas in Maryland.

This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of a groundbreaking study that addresses critical gaps in food access and nutrition support for underserved communities. The Lifestyle Interventionist/Research Dietitian will play a key role in implementing and evaluating the THRIVE intervention, contributing to the evidence base for food as medicine programs and informing policies to advance health equity.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide personalized dietitian coaching to study participants, including identifying culturally relevant produce for prescription, educating on healthy grocery shopping, meal storage, and preparation, and assessing adherence to the DASH diet.

  • Develop and deliver instructions on using produce prescriptions, food storage strategies, culturally appropriate meal preparation tips, and example recipes that incorporate cultural foods and dishes.

  • Conduct initial virtual coaching calls lasting 30-40 minutes and follow-up calls focusing on participants' experiences with prescribed produce, optimizing food storage and preparation, and exploring new healthy food items.

  • Contribute to the development and refinement of the THRIVE intervention through participation in human-centered design sessions with study participants, clinicians, and produce partners.

  • Monitor and assess participants' responses to weekly pulse surveys and deliver culturally tailored nutrition messages based on their responses.

  • Maintain accurate records of coaching sessions, participant progress, and other relevant data using the study's data management system.

  • Assist in the evaluation of the intervention's feasibility, acceptability, and fidelity, and contribute to the dissemination of study findings through presentations, reports, and manuscripts.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of office work and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Organized and self-motivated,

  • Excellent follow-up skills.

  • Ability to learn the use of a study management platform.

Technical qualifications or specialized certifications

  • Ability to attend virtual meetings and visit study sites.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field, preferably in Nutrition, Health Science, Public Health, Behavioral Psychology, Kinesiology or Exercise Physiology.

  • One year of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the DASH diet and its application in the management of hypertension and other chronic diseases.

  • Strong understanding of cultural competency and experience working with diverse populations, particularly Hispanic/Latina adults.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in using electronic health records, data management systems, and Microsoft Office suite.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary team environment.

  • Commitment to promoting health equity and reducing disparities through community-engaged research and interventions.

Starting Salary Range : &19.50 - $35.00 HRLY ($26,896. Targeted; Commensurate with experience
