University of Maryland, Baltimore Laboratory Research Technician (Contractual/C2) in Baltimore, Maryland

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Center for Biomedical Engineering and Technology is currently seekingmultiple/contractual/ Laboratory Research Technician. *Under direct supervision, performs routine bioanalytical, chemical, or physical tests according to standardized processes, and performs other laboratory activities and maintenance. The Center for Biomedical Engineering and Technology--BioMET--is a collaborative effort between the University of Maryland School of Medicine and the Fischell Department of Bioengineering at the Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland College Park. BioMET brings together basic biomedical researchers with engineers to develop new strategies and new devices to enhance our ability to treat diseases. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland./ * *PRIMARY DUTIES: * 1. Conducts routine biological procedures such as gel electrophoresis, protein purification, immunoblotting, PCR, and DNA cloning. 2. Preparation of chemical solutions, media, reagents, stains, and buffers. 3. Conducts sterile cell culture techniques and transfections. 4. Maintains mouse colony, including genotyping, weaning, and mouse crosses. 5. Performs cryosectioning and staining of tissues. 6. Conducts immunofluorescence microscopy. 7. Collects, records, and enters research data. 8. Uses computer software programs for data analysis. 9. Performs general housekeeping of laboratory, and operation of laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, meters, microscopes, incubators, autoclaves, and spectrometers Note: The intent of this list of primary duties is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this job. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary based upon departmental needs. *MINIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: *Bachelor's degree in a biological or chemical science. *Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: * General knowledge of the principles and practices of natural and/or chemical sciences; of the safe and proper handling and disposal of applicable specimens, materials and equipment. Ability to perform laboratory procedures using applicable equipment and techniques; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to use computers and related software applications; to lift, transport and deliver materials and stock laboratory supplies and goods; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
