TheDirector of Student Success, Leadership, and Engagementwithin the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) Division of Student Affairs will provide vision, leadership, supervision, and management of all essential components of the department by providing supervision and oversight of the following areas: student leadership, student organizations, civic engagement, and the Student Success Center which includes the UMB Student Pantry. These programs, initiatives, and services contribute to the comprehensive and vibrant leadership and engagement experiences of UMB students, as well as the university community which includes faculty, staff, neighbors, and alumni. This position will be an active collaborator with colleagues in the Division of Student Affairs and across the university to provide leadership and community engagement initiatives that ensure the success of all students. The Director serves as a member of the Division of Student Affairs leadership and director team to ensure the fulfillment of strategic, operational, and financial objectives of the division. This position reports to the Assistant Vice President of Student Success. This posting is limited to 50 applications and may close before the closing date if that limit is reached. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland. * *Primary Duties * Direct the development of the department’s strategic and operational planning and evaluation and assessment efforts designed to advance student success. * Direct areas that deliver programming, outreach, resources, and services that are responsive to the changing needs of students and the UMB community. * Assist in the oversight and support of areas and initiatives that offer university-wide inter-professional experiences, programming, co-curricular learning, service learning and community engagement opportunities, and student organization leadership development. * Direct all aspects of student leadership and development, civic and community engagement initiatives, and student experiences for the Student Success Center and the UMB Student Pantry within the Division of Student Affairs, including the University Student Government Association (USGA) and other student organizations. * Develop strategic objectives and goals, high-impact practices, and innovative approaches that prioritize student-centered approaches to student success. * Provide supervision, leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the Student Success and Leadership and Engagement employees comprised of professional and contractual staff and students. Direct the Student Success, Leadership, and Engagement team to optimize results and ensure a highly motivated team. Hire, supervise, develop, mentor, and evaluate professional staff, para-professionals, and students. * Develop and propose departmental budget requests including state, auxiliary, and grant revenues. Formulate and implement a plan of action to meet budget expectations. Effectively and appropriately steward department, programmatic, and service-related financial resources from various sources. * Assess the effectiveness and efficiency of programs, services, operations, and facilities to meet department, division, and university goals. Ensure the successful operations and continual improvement of Student Success and Leadership and Engagement programmatic offerings including adherence to departmental policies and procedures. * Conduct ongoing internal and external reviews of relevant higher education, student leadership and development, community engagement, and student success trends that ensure strategies, practices, policies, and programs align with best practices to meet learning outcomes, needs, and opportunities for our diverse student community. * Collaboratively design, deliver, and evaluate innovative, theory-based, and evidence-informed programs and interventions to support the diverse students and communities within the University. * Collaborate with UMB Student Affairs senior leadership to apply a student-centered and data-driven lens to inform strategic goals and objectives; implement improvements to policies and procedures; identify, assess, and mitigate risk; develop and manage budgets; improve operations that align with divisional and university priorities; and disseminate progress reports. * Facilitate or co-coordinate with stakeholders workshops, dialogues, seminars, and focus groups that further the university’s capacity for understanding and meeting the needs of all students. * Serve as a subject matter expert and proactively represent the department and University through participation in UMB and University System of Maryland meetings, committees, work groups, and special projects. * Utilize records of services, programs, and operations including database records, project schedules and minutes, contact lists, inventory, and related assets to report the successes and areas of opportunity for the unit and division. * Coordinate the regular publication of departmental summary reports and updates, including on a monthly and annual basis. * Provide programmatic oversight, assessment, and accountability for strategic planning, assessment, staff development, risk management, sustainability, innovation, and marketing of program offerings. Ensure adherence to mission, strategic planning, business practices, and departmental policies and procedures. * Nurture effective communication and partnerships throughout the university by partnering with students, departments, and campus leadership. * Assist the AVP of Student Success with identifying and securing grant and fundraising opportunities that assist the unit in meeting its operational objectives. * Perform other duties as assigned. Education:Bachelor's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Sociology or a closely related field. Master’s degree preferred. Experience:Seven (7) years of experience related to student leadership or engagement programs that includes progressive experience working with diverse college students. Preferred Experience:Experience developing and facilitating student leadership initiatives and experiences to diverse college student populations. Supervisory Experience:Three (3) years of direct supervisory, management or leadership experience. Other:Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted. Hiring Range:$106,000-112,000, commensurate with education and experience.
