Baltimore, Maryland- University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) seeks an accomplished and strategic physician executive to serve as its next Chair,Department of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.This Chair will be an exceptional academic leader with a substantial record of clinical, research, teaching, and administrative achievements to lead the department into the future. The new Chair will hold the Dean John M. Dennis Chair of Radiology named endowment. UMSOM was established in 1807 and is one of the oldest public medical schools in the country. UMSOM is known for synergy among the clinical and basic sciences departments and for pioneering new treatments in many areas of strength, which include transplant science, infectious disease, cancer care, and shock trauma. UMSOM is currently among the top public medical schools in the country, with an impressive $530 million in extramural research funding. This funding ranks UMSOM #9 among all public medical schools and #32 among all medical schools for research grants and contract expenditures. The Department of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at the UMSOM is also a national leader in its research efforts. It is one of the top 20 NIH-funded departments in the United States, with over $13 million in NIH funding, and ranks #16 among radiology and radiation oncology departments combined. The department comprises 85 full-time faculty members with 24 non-clinical faculty across ten divisions, offering state-of-the-art subspecialized clinical care, outstanding clinical research projects, four residencytraining programs, and six fellowship programs. UMSOM seeks a visionary leader who fosters an academic environment, clinical excellence, and effectiveness to serve as Department Chair. Along with the Dean, this leader will develop and execute a strategic plan to lead the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered clinical programs, robust growth of research, and advancement of educational programs and service missions. The Chair will have an entrepreneurial approach, a demonstrated record of successful recruiting, and the ability to inspire, manage, mentor faculty, and galvanize a diverse team. UMSOM seeks candidates with prior successful administrative and leadership experience gained within a radiology department in an academic center. The successful candidate will possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to recruit, promote the growth of others, inspire, manage, and collaborate. Candidates must hold a medical doctorate degree, be fellowship-trained, and possess Board Certification in Radiology. The salary range for this position is $650,000-$800,000. The referenced salary range reflects the AAMC base pay guidelines, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. This salary range does not include all components of the diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine faculty compensation program or pay from participation in the diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine incentive compensation programs. Therefore, the actual compensation paid to the selected candidate may vary from the salary range stated herein.
