Assistant or Associate Professor - Community-Based Physician Faculty (03-317-202): The Department of Radiation Oncology, at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, ranked top 5 in NIH Research funding, is recruiting for Radiation Oncologist at the Assistant / Associate Professor, non-tenure track level to provide services for our fully integrated community-based program located in Easton, Maryland. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in a career in academic radiation oncology with their primary practice location based at the Requard Radiation Oncology Center at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center (UM-SRMC) in Easton, MD. The primary expectations are to facilitate patient volume, actively participate in clinical trials, as well as represent access to treatment modalities only available at our downtown/other sites. There may be an opportunity to spend time at our downtown facilities to enhance the availability of advanced radiation modalities for the patients at the community radiation oncology practice. All physicians are involved in our teaching program which could include providing planned lectures to our residents, participating in mock oral exams, participating in teaching conference, medical students and other healthcare related trainees, as well as participate in annual review courses sponsored by the department. The Department of Radiation Oncology’s clinical program has twenty (20) physicians, inclusive of a physician scientist. The main patient care facility is at the University of Maryland Medical Center in downtown Baltimore, within the University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center, and is close to the main attractions of the Inner Harbor waterfront and professional sports stadiums. We provide patient care in eight (8) locations in Maryland; the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC), the Maryland Proton Treatment Center (MPTC), and the Baltimore Veterans Administration Medical Center (BVAMC) in downtown Baltimore, the Central Maryland Radiation Oncology Center (CMROC) in Columbia, the Tate Cancer Center at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM-BWMC) in Glen Burnie, the Kaufman Cancer Center at University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD (UM-UCMC), the Requard Radiation Oncology Center at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center (UM-SRMC) in Easton, MD, and the Center for Advanced Medicine at the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center(UM–CRMC) in Upper Marlboro, MD. There is a prospect that we may offer professional services in other locations in the future. Our current clinical program has eleven (11) linear accelerators, a research linear accelerator, five (5) multi-slice large bore CT simulators, a proton center with four (4) active treatment units, GammaPod, three (3) HDR units, an MRI and active programs in Hyperthermia Therapy, Brachytherapy, SRS/SBRT, Radiopharmaceutical Therapy and Radio-embolization. There are several campus-wide shared resources including small-animal imaging CT, PET and MR scanners. There are eleven (11) medical residents. Our research program is focused on Precision Radiation Oncology [PRO] and is led by our Senior Vice Chair for Research, Dr Phuoc Tran. Within this program is the Division of Translational Radiation Science, which was established to accelerate the discovery and clinical implementation of new therapeutic strategies to improve tumor response in clinical radiotherapy, minimize post-radiation therapy complications, and mitigate/treat the life-threatening health effects of a radioactive or nuclear agent. Research within PRO is focused on bridging the gap between novel hypothesis-driven science and contract research services to advance new drugs, medical devices, and therapeutic techniques from preclinical efficacy studies toward clinical trial for radiation oncology and biodefense applications. To this end, PRO has assembled a team of ten (10) faculty and > thirty (30) administrative, technical, and regulatory personnel uniquely equipped to operate at the intersection between basic and translational radiation science. The Medical Physics team is led by our Vice Chair of Physics Research, Dr. Amit Sawant, and has thirty (30) medical physics faculty, twenty-three (23) dosimetrists, three (3) medical physics residents, an active dosimetry training program, and seven (7) information systems and technology staff. All practice sites are connected via a state-of-the-art telemedicine network facilitating interactions between faculty and staff. Research programs include the development of new treatment planning and delivery techniques, tumor motion management, inter-fraction image guidance strategies and collaborative research. Medical physics research space is co-located with our PRO research to facilitate collaboration and team science. Candidates must be board certified/ eligible by the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Oncology and eligible for an unrestricted license in the State of Maryland. This position requires a medical degree from a recognized accredited domestic university (or foreign equivalent), a strong commitment to patient care and teaching, and the ability to work well in a team setting. The anticipated salary for this position is $287,100 - $529,061. The referenced salary range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. This salary range does not include all components of the Radiation Oncology faculty compensation program or pay from participation in Radiation Oncology variable compensation programs. Therefore, the actual compensation paid to the selected candidate may vary from the salary range stated herein. For more information, please contact the hiring department. The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on the University of Maryland School of Medicine’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range.
