The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) Bus Maintenance Department is now accepting applications for its Bus Mechanic Apprenticeship Program. This three-year program offers a unique opportunity to learn a skilled occupation within the Bus Maintenance Department. The program provides in-class instruction in partnership with the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) and hands-on experience working with other mechanics. Upon completion, participants will have the opportunity to become an MTA Bus Mechanic and receive a certification from CCBC.

The current vacancy is located in Baltimore, City Maryland.

The current work schedule hours are 7am-3:30pm Monday – Friday (there is an

option to work other shifts).

No overtime will be allowed

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Must be 18 years of age. Possession of high school diploma or equivalency (GED) certificate.

Experience: NONE,

REQUIREMENT: Applicants must have proof on completion of High School Trade in the field of auto mechanic, heavy equipment repair, or similar trade.

Physical: Applicants must be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the program, with or without a reasonable accommodation, and without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of the individual or others.

Apprentice will be subject to a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and screened for any illegal use of drugs or alcohol, both on acceptance into the program and during the duration of the program.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

The apprentice may travel and work outdoors at various locations throughout the MTA service area, in all types of weather conditions, and at all times of the day or night.

Apprentice may be exposed to a variety of hazards including, but not limited to, toxic materials and fumes, asbestos, flammable or combustible agents; any of which may require the use of personal safety equipment such as hard hats, hearing protection, protective eyewear/footwear, and respirators.

Apprentice must be able to perform the physical aspects required in a heavy maintenance shop environment including climbing, bending, crouching, stretching, and lifting objects weighing at least 50 lbs.

Licenses & Certifications

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

Applicants must possess a class C Driver's License valid in the State of Maryland. Applicants must list the license number and date of expiration on the application.

Applicants must be able to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) during the program.
