The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) invites you to apply today to be considered for a position that provides customer service to the citizens of Maryland every day. The MTA is one of the largest transit systems in the United States and is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to join the MTA team.
The Maryland Department of Transportation's Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is recruiting for A Repairman-HVAC Mechanic. The A-Repairman-HVAC performs the following duties: engages in all operations of major and minor installation, maintenance, and repairs of Transit Facilities HVAC Systems, including, but not limited to diagnosing and troubleshooting problems, and must be able to read blue prints. Must possess the ability to identify system components and their functions, troubleshoot all components, solder and remove/replace those components. Must be capable of silver soldering. Must understand refrigerant flow and be able to diagnose HVAC system malfunctions. Must be capable of using all machines, leak detectors, recovery machines, precision instruments, various hand tools and other equipment that is related to the performance and function of this position. He/she will perform duties of a similar nature as may be required. Secondary duties include the following: engage in all operations of major and minor inspections and repairs of transit facilities including ,but not limited to diagnosing and repairing problems with; plumbing systems, electrical systems, mechanical support facilities, ventilation systems, drainage systems, building support systems and other related duties. He/she will also engage in the operation of various Facilities Maintenance machines and test equipment and operate vehicles and equipment in the shops, yard, and on public streets and access areas. He/she will be required to handle situations involving interfacing with other MTA departments and operations, and may perform any additional duties associated with the Facilities Maintenance group as required.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED certificate recognized by the State of Maryland
EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years’ experience working as an HVAC mechanic installing, maintaining, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing air conditioning and refrigeration systems, with an outstanding knowledge of the operation of refrigerant controls.
NOTE:
The HVAC mechanic must have a thorough knowledge and understanding, of servicing and troubleshooting techniques to use the manufacturer's guides properly, and must be knowledgeable in the recovery, recycling, and reclaiming of refrigerants

Licenses & Certifications
Employees in this classification are assigned duties, which require the operation of a motor vehicle.
Employees will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
State of MD, HVAC – Journeyman License
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) refrigeration technician's certification.
Must possess a "Type II, and Type III" or "Universal" EPA Refrigeration Technician certification.
