Hours: 8hr Days (Hybrid)

Summary:

  • Primary responsibility for coverage of Princeton and NJ practices

  • The Clinical Educator for Professional Development practices within the professional practice model of his/her institution and exhibits Penn Medicine's core values in order to promote clinical professional development in alignment with his/her organization's strategic plan. Working from a specialized knowledge base, the Educator provides expert consultation in collaborative partnerships with various stakeholders to design, implement and evaluate educational programs that uphold practice standards, support evidence-based practice, and improve the delivery of high quality, comprehensive, individualized patient-and-family-centered care. The Educator provides leadership to identify the clinical staff's learning needs and respond to these educational needs while considering the effected patient populations, new clinical evidence, and organizational goals and changes both locally within the health system and nationally/globally. The Educator serves as a vital liaison to communicate and negotiate multiple perspectives within his/her organization in a respectful and effective manner to achieve/advocate positive change and delivery of appropriate and ethical care. The ultimate goal is to educate and empower clinical staff to provide quality patient centric care. The Educator is accountable for cultivating an environment of inquiry and learning that supports the autonomy and accountability of the various clinical roles, excellence in clinical practice, and upholds the strategic goals and values of his/her organization. The Educator includes patient-and-family-centered, culturally competent, and age specific care, as appropriate, throughout the educational programs offered by the department. The Educator is self-directed and purposeful in maintaining current professional knowledge and competence within specialty area and participating in peer review. Travel to various practice locations required.

Responsibilities:

  • Create educational programs that employ adult learning principles and varied educational methodologies to address the learning needs of clinical staff and support their professional practice. Assess learner characteristics, including learning styles and learning needs for program development Create an effective learning environment Use creativity and innovation to improve the quality of the learning experience Implementing plans in safe and timely manner Coordinate clinical, financial, technical, educational and other resources/systems to implement plans Implement plans using principles of quality, project or systems management Teach in and coordinate orientation programs Evaluate factors such as safety, effectiveness, availability, cost and benefits, efficiencies, opportunities for learners, and impacts on practice Plan culturally relevant programs that incorporate concepts of multicultural and multigenerational education and demonstrate a sensitivity to ethical, cultural and spiritual inclusion Implement a variety of teaching strategies tailored to the learners’ characteristics, learning needs, and outcome objectives Use educational methodologies to enhance critical thinking

  • Forge relationships with stakeholders at various levels and in various disciplines as needed to plan and develop educational programs that drive change and promote excellence. Plan and implement programs and projects using innovation and creativity Serve as a clinical resource for individuals and groups of staff. Provide clinical and educational support for new projects and initiatives Consistently use planning methodologies when implementing, facilitating, and evaluating various programs and projects Function in the roles of both teacher and facilitator Collaboratively develop content with target audience, content expert(s), and other stakeholders

  • Evaluate the impact of educational programs on educational and organizational outcomes. Design and implement systematic and useful evaluation plans for programs and projects Use process and outcome measurement and evaluation methods to evaluate staff and patient outcomes

  • Be a lifelong learner and promote lifelong learning in others. Accept personal responsibilities for own professional development and scholarship Promote participation in professional organizations and scholarship for self and others Interpret and use research in practice demonstrating knowledge of the research process Demonstrate effective oral and written communication Link clinical staff to professional development and other relevant resources

  • Consult with stakeholders throughout the organization to develop educational programs that align with the strategic needs of the organization. Advocate for CPD programs that support the needs of the learner and the organization Anticipate and forecasts trends Effectively facilitate group processes Use effective interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders and colleagues and to convey information effectively Promote problem solving Use organizational strategic plan and goals to determine educational priorities Engage in ethical decision-making

  • Act as organizational leader, model professional behavior. Implement motivational strategies at the individual, group, program and organizational levels Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information Model the application of Evidence-Based Practice and research based strategies

  • Function as a change agent and leader Incorporate new knowledge and skills to initiate change Model expert practice to peers, interprofessional team members, healthcare consumers, and learners Assume leadership roles representing professional development Establish strategies to promote recognition of Clinical Professional Development within the organization Influence decision-making bodies to maintain and improve quality professional development programs Promote Clinical Professional Development program mission, goals, action plans, and outcome measures

Credentials :

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)

  • Driver's License (Required)

  • Registered Nurse - PA (Required)

  • Registered Nurse - NJ (Required)

  • Certification as a Professional Devlopment Specialist (preferred)

  • Specialty certification in Nursing (preferred)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)

  • And 5+ years experience in nursing

  • Master of Arts or Science (preferred)
