Amentum Carpentry Supervisor in Baghdad, Iraq

The Carpentry Supervisor (Master) will be based at Amentum Union III site in Iraq and serve the Operations and Maintenance Support Services (OMSS) contract in support of the U.S. Department of State. This position will take ownership of all site painting, office and residential relocation, and minor furniture repair services and will report to the site O&M Manager. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.

DUTIES:

· Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.

· Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provide information and materials to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.

· Provide daily work assignments and supervise a multi-national workforce of Locksmiths and Carpenters.

· Perform carpentry services such as:

o Carpet installation and replacement

o Tile and linoleum replacement

o Windows, window frames, and screens

o Stair repairs including treading stairs

o Make and install signs

o Coat rack and similar fixture installation

o Drywall, steel studs, ceiling tracks and ceiling tile layout and installation

· Perform painting services as required for maintenance areas, piping and equipment, office and residential areas, and installation of Steelcase office furniture.

· Perform minor furniture repair services, including repair services that can be resolved on site within an eight-hour timeframe. May include bookcases, cabinets, shelves, chairs, tables, doors, door bolts, and doorframes.

· Report any problems or lack of compliance with Statement of Work (SOW) to the O&M Manager.

· Perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections.

· Assist in developing the Statement of Work (SOW) when requested.

· Maintain effective, timely, and respectful communication and interaction with other employees, managers, and supports other organizations.

· Perform other administrative tasks including ordering material, inventorying, and scheduling work.

· Collect, analyze, and summarize data for report preparation and submit written reports.

· Be responsible for facility custodianship of work area and management of tools, equipment, and spare parts.

· Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

REQUIRED:

· Minimum Acceptable Experience Level:

o Eight (8) years’ general carpentry experience in operations and maintenance services.

o Three (3) years’ operations and maintenance (O&M) experience in an overseas setting.

· Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

o Demonstrated knowledge of:

§ Roofing - shingle and sheet-metal.

§ Concrete form construction including mixing and finishing.

§ Carpeting including laying tile carpet and runner carpeting.

§ Painting including knowledge of different kinds of paint and application methods.

§ Flooring types and installation.

§ Operation of all normal fixed and portable carpentry shop tools.

o Knowledge of applicable U.S. Codes and accepted trade practices.

o Knowledge and experience regarding occupational hazards of the carpentry, painting and furniture repair trades and related safety precautions.

o Good organizational, time management, and communication skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.

o Ability to take initiative to analyze a situation and to make frequent technical decisions based on specifications, safety, and electrical codes.

o Ability to evaluate operational effectiveness and develop/maintain effective operational control mechanisms.

o Knowledge of principles and processes involved in supporting carpentry, painting and minor furniture repair functions at an overseas facility.

o Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.

o Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.

o Strong computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel.

o Ability to become an active and functioning member of a team.

o Must have the ability to be innovative and be an agent for change.

o Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information.

· Education: A high school diploma or GED and completion of an Apprentice program.

· Passport, Licenses and Certifications : As part of pre-contingency requirements, by the time the visa process starts , candidates must possess a valid passport with a minimum of 18 months remaining to expiration date with 8 blank pages.

o Valid drivers’ license

o Contractor’s license in Carpentry, not required but a plus

· Security Vetting: Already possess a US Government issued security clearance or Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) or be able to obtain a favorable MRPT certification or US Government clearance prior to being hired is required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification or clearance level for the duration of the contract.

· Language Skills: Satisfactory English proficiency to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health, and security measures.

· Medical: Successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by Amentum and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.

DESIRED:

· Training and experience with rough carpentry finish carpentry, cabinet making, furniture repair, and furniture construction is highly desired.

· AA/AS trade’s degree from a two-year college and/or equivalent field experience.

· Experience working with SOW, sub-contractors, budgets, estimating, working drawings and as built.

· Previous out of home country experience and previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions are a plus.

· Experience working with Amentum.

WORKING AND LIVING CONDITIONS:

This position may be located in a war zone, in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment. Temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment, as well as willing and able to deploy to Iraq for extended periods. Work schedules are a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, while some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
