Job Summary and Qualifications
As an Ultrasound Technologist, you will provide health care services, applying sound energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. You will perform ultrasonic imaging and related procedures in all areas of ultrasound. You will demonstrate anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner. You will exercise professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. You will apply appropriate patient care and recognize patient conditions essential for successful completion of procedure. You will apply knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span to identify patient and family requirements relative to age-specific needs. You will participate in providing patient specific care standards as directed and follow service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction.
You will consistently produce scans of optimal diagnostic quality on patients ranging from Neonatal to Geriatric
You will be knowledgeable and proficient in diagnostic medical sonography
You will demonstrate knowledge of human anatomy and physiology
You will follow established scanning and filming protocols
You will operate the Ultrasound units efficiently and effectively
You will maintain thorough knowledge of the operating parameters of the scanner
Job Requirements
Experience
Minimum one year experience as a diagnostic medical sonographer
One year of previous experience as a Radiologic Technician – preferred
Education
A single two-year allied health education program that is patient-care related (including, but not limited to, diagnostic medical sonographer, radiologic technologist, respiratory therapist, occupational therapist, etc) OR graduate of a program accredited by an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), United States Department of Education (USDOE) or Canadian Medical Association (CMA), that specifically conducts programmatic accreditation for diagnostic sonography/diagnostic cardiac sonography/vascular technology
Associate’s degree or higher in related technological field – preferred
Licenses and Certifications
Credentials with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
New graduates must obtain certification within two years of graduation date
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as per St. David’s Healthcare policy
Registered Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), post-primary certification in Sonography – preferred
Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist with the Texas Department of State Health Services
