The CSCP Organization is responsible for traditional supply chain functions such as Plan, Source, Make, Deliver, but also manages supportability (spares), decommissioning and disposition of Data center assets worldwide. We deliver the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform for external customers. Our infrastructure is comprised of a large global portfolio of more than 200 datacenters supporting services for more than 1 billion customers in over 90 countries worldwide.

Within CSCP, the Spare Parts team is responsible for ensuring that the right parts are in the right place, at the right time in support of delivering global data center capacity. We are looking for a Supply Chain Planner to proactively manage demand and supply activities for hardware spares within the Cloud space. In this role, you will perform complex analysis to determine optimal stocking levels throughout spare parts lifecycle, work cross functionally to ensure smooth delivery of supply, perform root cause analysis to explain and drive continuous improvement in planning and supply chain processes, and ultimately achieve target fill rate performance by managing inventory effectively. You will also work with Engineering PMs to provide feedback and requirements to help enhance our systems and tools. This role will operate in a global, dynamic, and fast-paced environment, managing robust processes for reliable delivery of spare parts to our datacenters worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize analysis, systems, and tools, to devise demand and supply plans that achieve fill rate targets while staying within parameters such as budget and supply chain process or schedule constraints.

  • Ability to plan demand and supply to optimize inventory across a single echelon supply chain, knowledge and ability to apply appropriate stocking models for parts depending on usage profiles, foundational knowledge of statistics, familiarity of segmentation concepts, understanding of how to use inventory buffers to appropriately manage risk, knowledge of safety stock calculations.

  • Independently create reports, work confidently across disparate data sets, provide effective data visualizations to convey key messages, data mine as necessary, and understand how to present multiple scenarios with data to support a recommendation (skills in Power BI(PBI) and ability to modify and run Structured Query Language(SQL) queries required).

  • Possess a comprehensive foundational knowledge of supply chain functions, processes, and systems so you can work effectively within your discipline and cross functionally with the ability to quickly identify risks and opportunities.

  • Navigate complex nuances in Bill of Materials(BOM) structures to understand spare part substitution relationships and situations where BOM logic applies conditionally.

  • Develop an understanding of the hardware components (spares) you manage so you can converse effectively with various stakeholders across the organization including but not limited to Hardware; Quality Engineering, Materials Master, Sourcing, and Data Center Operations.

  • Understand how to manage part lifecycle transitions proactively to mitigate risk of obsolete, aged, and excess inventory.

  • Familiarity and desire to understand reverse supply chain activities (returns, warranty redemption, repair operations, parts harvesting from decommissioned hardware).

  • Project management skills to drive small to medium sized projects simultaneously, balance competing priorities, and influence teams to provide inputs required to move initiatives forward.

  • Support vision and future state process & systems roadmap with clear articulation of current state opportunities and demonstrated systems thinking. Understand process controls and continuous improvement principles (Six Sigma certification preferred), and effectively map processes across swim lanes.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with an ability to explain multifaceted topics simply, create effective presentations, and author ‘one pager’ documents that define problem statements and present compelling, concise, and data-driven proposals.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Supply Chain Analytics, or related field AND 3+ years supply planning, operations, supply chain, indirect supply planning, technology-related supply chain, sourcing and manufacturing, or related experience

  • OR Master's Degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations Management, Supply Chain Analytics, or related field AND 1+ year(s) supply planning, operations, supply chain, indirect supply planning, technology-related supply chain, sourcing and manufacturing, or related experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Supply Chain Analytics, or related field AND 4+ years supply planning, operations, supply chain, indirect supply planning, technology-related supply chain, sourcing and manufacturing, or related experience

  • OR Master's Degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Supply Chain Analytics, or related field AND 6+ years supply planning, operations, supply chain, indirect supply planning, technology-related supply chain, sourcing and manufacturing, or related experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Skills in Power BI and ability to modify and run SQL queries, proficient with Microsoft applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint. Demonstrated expertise in program management and process improvement methodologies; Lean/Six-Sigma training, 5S, Kaizen, Agile, Certified in Production and Inventory Management(CPIM)/Certified Supply Chain Professional(CSCP) certification preferred.

  • Comprehensive working knowledge of key Information Technology(IT) and service industry concepts and understanding of cloud infrastructure and datacenter issues such as physical space, rack units, break-fix requirements, and incident management.

  • Detail oriented, ability to communicate complex problems and solutions, drive to collaborate, a bias for action to close out problems, very comfortable working with numbers.

  • Experience managing Product Life Cycle. Process/system background and ability to rapidly understand and drive improvements in new processes/systems.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced dynamic environment with rapidly changing requirements, robust critical thinking skills and ability to drive resolution in ambiguous situations

  • High Tech knowledge and understanding Network knowledge

Supply Planning IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,600 - $183,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $122,000 - $200,500 per year.
