Position Overview: The Special Education Due Process Docket Coordinator is a senior-level legal assistant who performs advanced case management tasks related to the special education due process hearing program within the Office of the General Counsel. The docket coordinator is an individual contributor on the special education legal team and reports to the Deputy General Counsel for Special Education and Dispute Resolution. Required tasks for this position include ensuring that all requests for due process hearings filed with TEA are docketed and assigned to a hearing officer, reviewing and docketing information relating to pre-trial and final orders, reviewing invoices, drafting correspondence and other legal documents, performing legal research, and preparing certified hearing records for appeals. This position may supervise the work of others. Flexible work location within the state of Texas may be considered for qualified candidates. You may perform other functions as assigned. 1. Special Education Due Process Docketing- Serves as the docketing clerk for the special education due process hearing system by timely assigning hearing officers to hearings requested in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), furnishing the parties with certain information, and entering required data into the Special Education Correspondence and Dispute Resolution System (CDRMS). 2. Records Maintenance- Maintains special education hearings records, prepares files for archiving according to the agency records retention schedule, and certifies hearing records for use on appeal as necessary.3. Public Information and Confidentiality Compliance Support- Serves as the public information request (PIR) custodian of records management for records related to the special education due process hearing systems and reviews and redacts do uments to ensure compliance with confidentiality requirements.4. Legal Research and Writing- Assists agency attorneys with legal research and the drafting of letters and documents as needed, including responding to public inquiries, both written and by phone regarding the IDEA dispute resolution process.5. Special Education Due Process Hearing Compliance Support- Assists agency attorneys with monitoring the special education due process hearing program for IDEA compliance by reviewing information contained in hearing officers pre-trial and final orders to identify possible areas of concern. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. Experience: At least four (4) years of experience in legal assistance or other relevant experience. Experience in the area of special education law and/or with administrative and court hearings, including as a docket clerk, highly preferred. The following experience is helpful: experience with methods of alternative dispute resolution; experience with providing responses under the Texas Public Information Act or similar statutes; and experience with federal or local government. Substitutions: Each additional year of related experience above the required minimum may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
