Amazon Senior Open Source Engineer, Open Source and Emerging Tech in Austin, Texas

Description

As an Amazon Web Services (AWS) Open Source software engineer within the Strategic Accounts segment, you will partner with our most valuable customers to design cloud architectures using Open Source technologies on AWS. Our customers use open source technologies (e.g. Backstage, Terraform, Crossplane, ArgoCD) as core components of their Internal Developer Platform (IDP) implementations. As an Open Source engineer on the Solutions Architecture team, you will provide customers with prescriptive guidance by developing tooling, examples, and reference implementations consistent with open source community standards and cloud-native best practices.

In this role, you will collaborate with AWS strategic customers and AWS open source engineers as well as AWS Field Teams (Account Managers, Solutions Architects, Technical Account Managers), and external open source project communities. Key job responsibilities

  1. Understand Customer Needs: Gain a deep understanding of the customer's technical and business requirements, and identify key pain points in building Internal Developer Platforms (IDP) solutions using open-source technology on AWS.

2.Open-Source Community Engagement: Actively participate in and collaborate with key open-source communities to support our customers in building their IDP solutions.

  1. Community Collaboration and Roadmap Management: Lead discussions with open-source community members to prioritize features and functionality, and maintain an up-to-date external roadmap.

  2. Community Governance and Growth: Establish a governance model and drive community participation to ensure the sustainability and growth of the open-source projects.

  3. Accelerate IDP Development: Develop plugins, tools, and reference implementations to accelerate the development of IAM solutions using open-source technologies.

  4. Customer Support and Contribution: Unblock customers by collaborating with and contributing to open-source projects to address their needs.

  5. Knowledge Sharing: Present your work and research at internal and external conferences to share your expertise and insights.

  6. Scaling and Optimization: Contribute to and develop scaling and optimization techniques, such as sharding algorithms, to enhance the performance and scalability of IDP solutions.

About the team

AWS Sales, Marketing, and Global Services (SMGS) is responsible for driving revenue, adoption, and growth from the largest and fastest growing small- and mid-market accounts to enterprise-level customers including public sector.

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience (C/C++, Python, Java, etc.)

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in programming (Go, Python, JavaScript or similar) and willingness to learn new technologies as needed

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems, multi-threaded programming, and virtualization

  • Professional experience building/operating solutions built on AWS or other public cloud providers

  • Able to adapt to new technologies, learn quickly, and manage high ambiguity

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $138,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $239,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
