TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION E056 Design Tech Specialist III or IV: North Travis Area Office (Austin District) in Austin, Texas
This position provides technical expertise and coordination for transportation programs involving construction projects, construction of transportation systems, traffic operations, and maintenance of highways in accordance with Department standards. Assists with project planning and oversight, and the development of policies and procedures for area of responsibility. This position will help coordinate and perform technical work related to new utility installation permits, and utility coordination of TxDOT projects. Work requires contact with governmental officials, consultants, contractors and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Essential Duties:Evaluates and analyzes highly complex design issues.Assists in overseeing design work among TxDOT entities, consultants and contractors.Assists in overseeing project design involving design calculations and sketches of plans, layouts and typical sections.Assists in planning, developing, administering and monitoring district maintenance contracts and service agreements.Assists in prioritizing and scheduling projects.Coordinates communication between district/division/Department of Public Safety and other external entities.Coordinates compilation of complete plan packages for submission to the responsible engineer for review and signature.Coordinates with staff and area engineers regarding construction operations as they relate to contract administration, programming, planning, design, right-of-way and maintenance operations.Reviews and oversees plan packages submitted by consultants.Serves as technical member on transportation-related projects.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.This position requires you to drive for TxDOT
