People Experience Technology Central Science (PXTCS) is the center of excellence for scientific research and science-driven products for PXT. As a central science team, we are always in Day One, innovating on behalf of employees, customers, and the business. We bring cutting-edge ML algorithms, econometric models, and Generative AI solutions into products to measurably improve employee experience for Amazonians and Amazon.

We are seeking a Director of Science Products and Programs. In this role you will lead a nimble, core technical product and program team to develop and launch science-drive products an programs that improve employee experience for 1.5+ million Amazonians worldwide. Products our team is developing improve all aspects of work for employees and managers including benefits, compensation, recruiting, voice of employee, management, and culture. We are developing tools to accelerate use of data and science in business decisions, and to support robust and reliable scientific insights to guide business decisions. You will work closely with business partners and an interdisciplinary team of UX and science experts in economics, applied science, and engineering, to create and deliver positive impact for Amazon employees at scale. Key job responsibilities

  • Define and drive the multi-year vision, strategy, and roadmap for the product portfolio, aligning with Amazon's goals of improving employee experience through scalable, data-and science-driven decisions.

  • Collaborate closely with science and engineering teams to develop and integrate state-of-the-art AI models, with a focus on leveraging emerging AI technologies like large language models, causal machine learning and sentiment analysis.

  • Engage directly with Amazon's most senior leaders to deeply understand their workforce needs, and translate them into innovative AI-powered product capabilities. Continuously gather stakeholder and user feedback to improve the product.

  • Define clear goals, objectives, and success metrics in the planning and execution space, identifying risks, developing mitigation strategies, and rigorously measuring business impact through data and experimentation.

  • Deliver comprehensive product documentation such as 3-Year Plans, Vision documents, PR/FAQs, Business Requirement Documents, and AI ethics guidelines to ensure responsible development of GenAI.

  • Influence priorities and business strategy across Amazon through quantitative analysis, data driven recommendations, and demonstrating the transformative potential of applying advanced AI to improve employee experience.

  • Manage and mentor a team of product managers, fostering an innovative culture of working backwards from customer needs to build powerful AI solutions.

About the team

The Central Science team within Amazon’s People eXperience and Technology org (PXTCS) uses economics, behavioral science, statistics, and machine learning to identify mechanisms and process improvements that simultaneously improve Amazon, the lives, well-being of and value of work to Amazonians. PXTCS is an interdisciplinary team that invests in innovation and rapid prototyping of scientific models and software to develop and deliver solutions that measurably contribute to achieving these goals. We provide science leadership and support throughout Amazon PXT, covering all aspects of people support including benefits, how we work, skills and career development for corporate and operations employees. Our interdisciplinary team economic modeling, statistical analysis, survey science, ML/AI, generative AI research design and implementation to help leaders make great decisions and hep PXT make delightful tools that help Amazonians delight our customers. Our work has a significant positive impact on 1.5 million Amazonians and the communities Amazon serves.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Economics, Mathematics or related quantitative field

  • 15+ years of experience, including 5+ as a Director, Principal Product Manager or equivalent role, leading complex, cross-functional product initiatives from strategy to execution

  • Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition

  • Experience in project management methodologies and managing senior stakeholders’ expectations

  • 7+ years people management experience, building strong teams and managing managers

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Economics, Mathematics or related quantitative field

  • Experienced in product management and/or business leadership for science-driven models (including AI, GenAI, forecasting, recommendation systems)

  • Sharp analytical abilities and proficiency with SQL, Python and R

  • A track record of project delivery for large, cross-functional, science-driven projects that have been successfully delivered to customers

  • Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, with a talent for simplifying complex issues

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to leverage data to drive insights and inform product decisions

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and stakeholder management skills, with

  • Passion for innovation and a track record of delivering groundbreaking products that drive measurable business impact

  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment and drive projects from concept to launch

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $237,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $350,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
