Identifies, researches and develops strategic messaging for emerging and urgent issues in collaboration with relevant campus communicators and stakeholders. Demonstrates awareness of key university audiences. Maintains protocols for responding to different kinds of issues. Creates timely, original content for UT Austin to respond to both actual and hypothetical issues with internal and external audiences, including news media, and ensures message continuity.Serves in an advisory capacity to senior university leaders on strategic, time-sensitive issues and events of potential impact to the institutions reputation. Delivers intelligence to university leadership regarding current or emerging issues and risks to inform decision making. Provides strategic advice and counsel, in collaboration with UMAC leaders to university leadership.Serves as a primary contact on emergency response team for UMAC and the Office of the President. Develops communications and coordinates communications response with other campus units for acute emergencies and less intensive crises such as weather closings. Coordinates training and policy with other key staff in best practices for emergency communications.Serves as an issues-communications adviser for colleges and schools across campus. Coordinates internal flow of key messages and other information with representatives and leaders of colleges and schools to ensure awareness and alignment regarding emerging issues and trending stories.Collaborates with UMAC professionals on disseminating key messages and guidance to campus leaders on issues evaluated and monitored by the Issues Management team.Monitors and reports on emerging and ongoing issues through social media, online research and interaction with students, campus colleagues and external stakeholders. Familiar with traditional and social media monitoring tools to evaluate national trends in higher education issues and how these could affect UT Austin. Reviews accuracy of stories covering UT issues. Issues regular reports on potential and current issues.Effectively manage correspondence with and inquiries from reporters to ensure that the information publicly reported on is accurate and timely during times of emergency or crisis.Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and mentors assigned staff.
