Job Summary and Qualifications

This position supports the mission of The Medical Center of Aurora and Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital of optimizing quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. Oversees and directs the care of assistive personnel, maintaining accountability for the care given to assigned patients. When the need arises, will complete other duties as assigned.

This position reflects advanced experience and/or expertise in a specific therapy discipline. Staff functioning in this role will participate in direct patient care, staff & program development and professional initiatives.

  1. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for assigned patients. Each service area may require specialized skills and/or serve specific age categories, which may include pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

  2. Treatment is provided in compliance with the Hospital and Therapy Service Policies and Procedures.

  3. Supports of the Hospital and department at all times, participate in the Rehabilitation Services Department and Hospital’s Performance Improvement efforts.

  4. Assume responsibility for maintaining and improving Therapy knowledge and skills.

  5. Demonstrates good judgment and the ability to function independently and possess evaluation and decision making skills.

  6. Mentors and/or oversees the clinical practice of all department staff.

  7. Participation in professional initiatives and staff development.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Employee must maintain an active license degree related Therapy service discipline in the State of Colorado

  • BS, MS or Doctorate degree in related Rehabilitation Service discipline.

  • 3-5 years clinical experience.

    1. Works cooperatively with the entire healthcare team and demonstrates advanced leadership skills.

    1. Evaluates and treats patients referred for services by a licensed physician or dentist according to the Colorado Law and Medicare/The Joint Commission regulations.
    1. Communicates effectively in writing and verbally with patients, families, physicians and other hospital personnel.
    1. Practices safety measures in all patients care duties.
    1. Accurately and completely documents evaluation findings, treatment planning, goals, education of patients/ families, discharge planning.
    1. Accepts responsibility for formulation of the plan of care according to identified patient problems as needed, accepts accountability for the implementation of the plan of care by appropriately and effectively communication with team members.
    1. Supervises and directs treatment of department aides and assistants.
    1. Patients may include individuals of ages from pediatric, adolescent and adult to geriatric. Adjusts assessment and treatment based upon the age of the patient.
    1. Identifies the educational needs of the patient/family, determines the appropriate interventions, promotes patient participation and establishes realistic outcomes that are re-evaluated on an ongoing basis.
    1. Administers treatment modalities and procedures in a safe and effective manner, based on the physician’s prescription and the therapist’s professional judgment in an accurate, safe and timely manner. Accepts responsibility for the knowledge of the actions of all team members.
    1. Participates in functional improvement team, hospital, and department in-services and other educational activities that help improve the goals and standards of care.
    1. Recognizes behavior or attitudes that interfere with effective team performance and initiates measures to resolve conflicts that disrupt high quality patient care.
    1. Adheres to Infection Control/Standard Precautions while performing all duties.
    1. Demonstrates proficiency and working knowledge of all department equipment.
    1. Adheres to policies and procedures regarding patient rights.
    1. Follows all Hospital and Department Policies and Procedures.
    1. Maintains good attendance, as well as displays professional conduct and dress at all times.
    1. Demonstrates understanding of Hospital and Department safety and emergency procedures.
    1. Demonstrates competency for all standards on the performance appraisal.
    1. Practice reflects professionalism, maturity, and commitment.
    1. Performs general administrative duties
    1. Schedules new/existing patients and completes patient registration/revisits
    1. Submits new patient information/documentation into WebPT which includes scrips, physician notes, med lists, ID Cards
    1. Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

  • Bachelors Degree

  • Licensed Physical Therapist, or Registered Occupational Therapist (ROT), or Speech Therapist

Since 1968, Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital (https://spaldingrehab.com/) has been in the business of rebuilding lives and renewing hope by offering intensive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs , tailored specifically to patients’ needs. Our 42-bed licensed rehabilitation hospital , along with our rehab unit at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center (PSL), specializes in treatment of conditions such as: stroke, brain injury, neurologic conditions, orthopedic injuries, spine injuries, amputations, and other disabling medical conditions . Spalding hosts the only dedicated Controlled Stimulation Unit for brain injury in the state of Colorado .
