Overview
Q uality Custom Distribution, a division of Golden State Foods, is seeking aSafety Manager. The Safety Manager is responsible for being a partner to business leaders in ensuring the safety and health of associates and compliance with regulatory requirements. This role focuses on implementing safety initiatives, providing education, overseeing safety programs, and maintaining compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations. The Safety Manager will support the distribution centers in their respective region in adhering to and enhancing safety policies and procedures, conducting regular safety meetings, and managing safety technology platforms.
Responsibilities
• Training and Education:Lead as the subject matter expert on safety to ensure distribution center leaders and associates are trained and comply with policies, procedures as well as OSHA and DOT regulations. Develop, coordinate and conduct training sessions on safety topics, policies, and procedures. Provide ongoing education to leaders and associates on safety standards and practices to set expectations and drive a proactive, leader-led safety culture. •Ensure Compliance:Partner with each distribution center to support and roll out new safety initiatives. Ensure consistent application of safety procedures, policies, OSHA, DOT and other relevant requirements across all locations. •Review Results:Regularly review safety performance results through systems and reports, including training records in Safety Culture and Samsara, identifying trends and areas for improvement. •Safety KPIs:Provide each center with updated safety Key Performance Indicator (KPI) information on a weekly basis to track progress and highlight areas needing attention. •Maintain Accurate Records:Maintain up-to-date and accurate safety records in accordance with company and regulatory guidelines, ensuring all safety incidents and measures are properly documented. •OSHA Log Review:Collaborate with HR to review OSHA logs for accuracy, ensuring proper record-keeping and compliance with regulatory reporting requirements. •Safety Meetings:Lead bi-weekly safety calls with each distribution center leadership team to ensure ongoing safety efforts are consistent and effective. In partnership with location leaders, lead monthly safety meetings with the locations safety committee to review safety performance, incidents, and best practices. Participate in business group and enterprise-wide EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) calls, sharing insights and collaborating on improving workplace safety. •Safety Observations and Inspections:Review safety observations from supervisors, providing feedback and recommendations to improve proactive safety standards. Oversee monthly safety inspections at all centers to identify and rectify potential hazards. •Accident and Incident Investigations:Oversee the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near-misses, ensuring corrective actions are taken and shared across the organization. Analyze incident reports, safety behaviors, and injury case studies to identify patterns and root causes. Use this data to institute changes and improvements that foster a safer work environment. •Medical Provider Relationships:Establish and maintain strong working relationships with medical providers to ensure efficient handling of workplace injuries and health concerns. •Performs other related and assigned duties as necessary. KEY MEASURES OF SUCCESS The key measures of success for the QCD Safety Manager are tied to their ability to partner with operations leaders to prevent accidents, comply with regulations, improve safety culture, and manage risk. •Incident Rates:Successfully meet yearly targets set per distribution center •Regulatory Audit Outcomes:Success in passing safety audits conducted by internal or external agencies, such as OSHA, state or local safety regulators, and third-party auditors. •Completion Rate of Safety Training Programs:The percentage of employees who have completed mandatory safety training (e.g., OSHA certifications, equipment handling, emergency procedures). •Safety Culture and Engagement: Active involvement of leaders and associates in safety committees or teams, reflecting how well safety is integrated into the distribution center safety culture. •Accident Investigations and Root Cause Analysis:The speed and quality of investigations into workplace accidents, with a focus on identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent future incidents. Qualifications
Education:Associate degree or applicable commensurate work experience, Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
Experience:A minimum of 5 years of proven success in logistics/distribution management, managing and leading safety for one or multiple distribution centers
